Hi, I've finally my big 4K tv for gaming. I need a GPU to run it.

TV has only HDMI 2.0 so AMD is crap atm.

My current rig is Asrock P67 Pro3 i5 2500k 4.5ghz 620w seasonic bronze 8gb ram

I was thinking about getting:

GTX 780ti and run games in medium details
(playing diablo3, Fifa15, Tera Online)

GTX 970 less performance than 780ti, prices are similar
dunno what will drivers do in the future, might outperform 780ti?

change mobo and buy 780 sli or 780ti sli or 970 sli ?

Wonder if it is worth chaning mobo and stick to 2500k
also for sli my seasonic 620w might be not enough

Best to me sounds 780ti and stick with it till 980ti
Any ideas? Thanks!

ps. dont worry about electricity consumption and noise

Well only the 970 and 980's have HDMI 2.0, so if you want more than 30fps (and who wouldn't) you need to get those.

The 970's aren't 4k cards, especially with the revelation about the 3.5GB VRAM at full speed, so really your only choice is SLI 980's for consistent 4k...and even then they aren't the best 4k cards.

It's the reason I made sure my 4k TV had a DisplayPort, so I can use my AMD GPU's.

So you need a tv with display port for AMD cards? Which AMD card is best for 4k on a tv set? Which tv too?

AMD dont have HDMI 2.0 so they can only do 30 fps @ 4K. Display port can do 60 fps @ 4K which AMD cards have.

As to which card is best, get 2+ 8GB 290x's.

Wow I did not know that. I was under the impression nvidia could only do 4k
@ 60fps.

So xfire 290x 8gb's run 4k 60fps smooth on every game?

I just upgraded my r9 290 to a 980 for my 4k TV both cards ran it fine.

Lower settings and higher temps on the 290 but it still worked.

And yeh u need hdmi 2.0 if u want 60 fps else u can go with any single card as u won't get more than 30fps off the tv anyway

Hey hold on, stop messing about :)

TV has HDMI 2.0, NO DISPLAYPORT. I spent 1.4k on 65inch 4k samsung rather than spendind 2.2k on panasonic with displayport. Better spend £800 on pc stuff.

U can play 4k at 60hz from GTX 7xx series with on chroma 4:2:0 which is absolutely fine for games.

Question is/was if it is worth going for 970 sli, 780sli, 780ti sli or 980sli

Most I like is to get 780ti now and

Change Asrock P67 to another mobo and keep i5 2500k? or change whole platform. and go for sli then

780 6gb (if you're lucky), 780ti / 980 would be my preferred route.

U mean 2x 780 6gb as the sli?

Ye know that:)

If I go for 970 sli that my seasonic 620w would be enough?

Thing is in the same price of 970 u can have 2x 780ti. maybe little be more.
They are better cards. only my psu might not lift it

I really wouldn't bother with 4k with less than 4GB ram, so I wouldn't recommend a 780Ti.

Like I said, If you are going for Nvidia at 4k, It's SLI 980's or nothing IMO.

I discounted the Samsung because the 60ms+ response time.

I'd avoid chroma 4:2:0 unless you have no other option.

For what you are doing you're going to run into vram limits no matter what but 980 is the best option. It's expensive but 970 is not a 4k card. 960 is CERTAINLY not a 4k card.

290 8gb would be best but as you say you'd be stuck at 30hz.

You can't get the 6gb variant of the 780 for £125. I don't think there was a 6gb 780ti.

60ms + is when u play 1080p on 4K. Playing BF4 on 4K in 30hz and been on the top of the board. No lag noticable. If u CS die hard player that be bad enough for u.

Weird about saying that 4gb ram is not enough. Been playing Tera Online (1.2gb) Far Cry 4 4K 3.5gb vram. Also when u look at some tests that 3gb vram gtx780ti is better than 970 3.5gb in 4K games.

980 is like £380 780ti is like £250 aint worth that much extra

@up

You can wait forever as u know :) dont want to go AMD again.
I been with them since HD5850. They failed to me by not letting r9 290 290x 295x2 playing 4K through HDMI 1.4.
Nvidia did that by playing chroma 4:2:0.

They failed you by not circumventing the HDMI spec with a bodge job that makes the colour horrible? Ok.

Well I can only speak from personal experience...which is as a 4k game player. But there are games that already go over 4GB V-ram.

Off the top of my head:
Hitman: Absolution, Shadows of Mordor, Dying Light to name a few.

God knows what GTA V will be like but if it's anything like Max Payne 3 (same game engine) then that also goes above 4GB with Anti-aliasing enabled at 4k.

Colours arent horrible. Did u see it? I've seen desktop on them it looks fine.
Games looks absolutely the same. So if Nvidia was able to do that why not AMD? That why I am not fancy them anymore. They seems to be playing catch up whole the time.

Yes u right. hm.. So far most games that I've played were up to 3.5gb
To be honest I know that no one of current cards will give me 60fps 4k and ultra details. I am looking for soomthing to run on it till 2016 and new cards such as ... hm.. gtx980ti?

What I need is 4K 40-50fps medium details, no shadows or aa needed.

Will 780ti manage that? or hardly
