Motherboards and frames per second ?

So I just saw a good review of the Asus Sabranco and 1 thing stood out to me, The fps difference between motherboards.

OC3D tested the Asus Sabranco and on the tests which are run multiple times there was a 9fps difference between it and the MSI Gaming 5, The MSI board was able to squeeze out more frames.

How does this work seeing as most Z97 boards are identical, I thought we were away from the days of motherboards heavily dictating such large increases ?

Pretty sure it's just crap testing

Could be latency between the PCIEX slots and the chip set through interference on the traces or even just longer traces.

TTL's testing is very thorough so I'm finding it hard to think it comes down to that TBH

Could longer traces really make such a difference though ?
