I've had enough of exploring now, seen a black hole and Betelgeuse (it's flipping huge), so headed back to populated space. One thing I want to see an overhaul of is the routing system. I know they're increasing the distance you can route, currently around 100 ly I believe, but I want to be able to set a route but then select on that route where I jump to without losing the route. The problem is some of the system names are a bloody pain so I've been writing them down so I can type it in again to make sure I stay on the router I want to be on but either the game is thick or I am, it's possibly me, as when I type in what I've written down, sometimes it's not there.

My Asp's current insurance cost is more than I have, I bought the best jump drive I could just before I left populated space, so I just want to get back to a system where I can get a cheaper drive. Even though I did boast about having star refuelling down pat, I have taken some damage but that was when I got too close to a black hole.

Regarding system names, there's a couple of gotchas like spaces, dashes and numbers in the names, but this helps:-

Try just typing the first few characters into the gal map and then hit "Return". This takes you to the first close match, but then repeated key presses cycle through similar alternatives. Might help.

I too would like the ability to save routes so they don't get lost when doing something else or logging out.

Picked this up last night after really liking to look of it and while I've only had time to have a quick go on a few of the tutorial missions it's looking the business!

Tried with keyboard and mouse and even struggled to even shoot the stationary gas cannisters but with my X-Box 360 pad it was a lot easier - think I'm going to have to go for a joystick to get the best out of it!

Are there any (very) noob guides out there for me to read through before jumping into the main game? - bear in mind that I never even played the original Elite! :eek: (prepares for a verbal battering! :p)

YouTube's probably your best bet: loads of cracking beginner's advice.

The official forum has some good threads too, but you have to weave around the utter hatebilge ;)

Oh, if you really need to read, rather than watch, the official pilot's guide is good too. Downloadable from the launcher.

Well. It was nice to meet Cmdr Dinosaur (AKA Screech) online last night.

I've decided to get a type9 to grind some credits at 2x the rate I can in the Python.

Screech - just how painful is the T9 to fly ?

A pretty decent Python to a T9 worth it to hammer for credits ya think? It would make it easier getting the Anaconda but I am loving how the Python flies and can give me the option to take people out when I get bored doing Luxuries runs.

That is where I'm at. The Type7 was just sooooo boring. Nothing to relieve the boredom of going back and forth.

Maybe I'll keep the python, see where we are when it gets nerfed and maybe go Type9 then if I want to grind something else.

I found the Asp so hard to get used to in combat I had to trade down (or should I say up) to a Cobra again. If I were an explorer the Asp would be excellent, it has a great view and plenty of equipment slots.

Yer, I was getting so fed up on the T7 but knew I had to push to get something decent. Got the Python and still find I am pushing trading just to upgrade it. Meh!!! I will stick with that and can hit the luxuries for an hour and hit the enemy for an hour.

You know.... I actually quite like it, it's pretty hard to fly - it's like flying a football stadium... but it really feels like you're flying a BIG ship, and when you start getting 825k profit per run... yeah.. you get the idea :>

A few tips;

1: Missing the SC drop point sucks - as it takes 10 mins to turn in supercruise, which can add minutes to your trade run

2: The 256 bay cargo rack costs about 3.5M (just so your aware of the cost)

3: you have to be very careful, docking - you need a clear slot, and if you forget to request permission - there's no way you're getting out in 30 seconds..

Edit - Looked at prices...

T9 trading = 100 mill + insurance/cargo
Anaconda = 200 mill + insurance Cargo
For trading setups.

Hmmm, Will be Python (current) -> T9 THEN 'conda it seems :P

Cobra is the first worthwhile upgrade after the sidewinder. It's got a bit of everything. Great utility craft.

I think FD need to get more combat orientated ship types between the Cobra and the Python. The Asp IMHO is a step backwards for a combat pilot, the extra 2x light weapon slots do not compensate for the massive loss in agility.

Just spent 45mins at a nav point. The python (3 x beams, 2 x m-canon) certainly rips stuff up, but the ,-canons seem to be endlessly thermally overheating.

Very easy. Pretty much plug and play.

You'll need the arduino drivers and edtracker software from their website. Did you go for the 9150?
