Looking for something new and shiny to replace my 22 year old rustmobile with. Open to ideas. My preferences lean towards the powerful and sexy-looking end of the car spectrum. Practicality and efficiency are secondary considerations here. Reliable would be nice, so no Alfas or Lotuses please.

new ford mustang?

I was tempted by that for a while, but it would be a long time before I got my hands on it. Also, to get it below 30k, it would be the ecoboost engine, which the name alone seems like a kind of blasphemy in a Mustang. It would have to be the V8 engine.

Also, I don't think they let you test-drive them? That's pretty much a deal-breaker for me. I'm not dropping 35k on a new car, sight unseen.

I'm 6 feet 4 inches tall. I wouldn't fit in a Caterham.

20k - 30k is a pretty large budget window. What you can get for 20k is going to vary wildy with what you can get for 30k.

Does it have to be brand new?

I'm willing to consider used, but nothing older than a couple of years, I think.

.

Ignoring your other point, if you can afford £30k, you can easily find another £2k for the V8 without the unnecessary (and limited) options.

Not to mention the fact that he may be able to get some money off the list price (although i guess that is not a given with how pouplar they may turn out to be)

Absolutely. If I were willing to completely wipe out my savings, I could even stretch to 40. But in combination with said other point, it becomes less attractive. Also, I thought the Mustang V8 was 35k, not 32?

Sorry, £33k for the V8 in either red or orange paint, the option pack costs an extra £2k. You have 1 year to save up that extra £3k.

P.s. A Lotus would be reliable.

I'd stretch to £35k and get the new mustang or try And find a decent second hand GTR.

New? Goodness... Something Japanese or something daft.
