Are you a seat belt offender?

I had a bad crash when I was 18. The impact snapped the metal buckle of the seat belt but it held me in, Without the seat belt I would have been dead. The fireman that got me out the car said the only reason I survived was the seat belt.

I had only put it on a few mins before at a petrol station.

It's been 19 odd years since and I cannot be in a car without a belt on and will not drive unless all passengers have one on too.

I've always worn a seatbelt.

Saying that ;) I was in a car park today and I actually drove about 20 yards without being buckled up ... and my car went MENTAL at me!!! Flashing seat-belt sign on the dashboard, and a highly annoying continuous warning siren. If that doesn't make you belt up, I don't know what will :)

i feel naked with out one on, mine goes on before i even start the car, + i dont want to go through my front windscreen

Always wear one, but only shoulder strap part.

I put the other bit behind me due to a medical condition.

It's that or not wearing one at all!

Always have - it's automatic and I feel really unsafe and vulnerable if I don't, even if I'm just moving the car 20 feet.

My car does pretty much all it can to nag you too - polite bonging noise which turns into a really annoying beep if you ignore it, for both the driver and passenger. Also the handbrake won't automatically release if the driver's belt isn't fastened (or a door is ajar).

You mean the lap belt behind you? I'd imagine that's very dangerous - in a crash your lower body is going to slide forward and drag you down in the seat and the chest belt will probably end up strangling you.

Probably,

But I have no choice, doctors orders.

They would not sign me off not to wear a belt and said I had to wear part of it.

It's that or don't drive I guess as I was told I would not be insured to drive without one on.

Always without exception, even though I'm a London cabbie and don't have to if I'm plying for hire or have a passenger on board. Just seems incredibly silly not to.

Actually, that's an interesting point, if you were to suffer injuries in an accident which were caused by not wearing your belt, would the insurance co be able to refuse a payout to cover those injuries?

E.g. if you broke your spine could they refuse to pay for any specialist care required if they could show that had you been wearing the belt you most likely wouldn't have broken it

My family never wears seatbelts, my dad and my 2 uncles never ever wear them. I think it's because they are used to the Italian way of driving so they dont bother.

I personally always wear my belt, if i dont have it on it feels like i'm naked. Same feeling when i forget my phone it just feels off and uncomfortable.
