Right decided to send back my G1 970's as i have recently got a 1440 monitor and feel its the right thing to do.

So what card(s) now?.......

Well SLI 970 is exhibiting problems with memory intensive games thanks to the 3.5gb of ram this even at 1080p, so them 290x 8gb cards will certainly future proof you for a good few years.

Just do it!

PSU should be ok if you keep the cards at stock. 290x xfire with non ref cardscould get a bit hot too in your board, an issue I've ran into with the similar spaced formula.

I can vouch for this card, using it my own PC. Runs in the 70c's, well built, nice backplate. 8GB of vram awesomeness.

You had a 970 didn't you? How does it compare to that if so? As I'm now thinking of swapping from the 970 to that or maybe even the PCS+ 290

Yeah we've got an MSI GTX 980 Gaming, it is an excellent card. The fastest I have used. Faster than Titan Black, 290X etc in terms of fps and benching. If it had a larger frame buffer it would be unstoppable :p

When you consider the cost difference between the two cards, (Almost £200) the 290X 8GB is the card to get.

Things I've noticed are the 980 gets higher overall fps but the 290X 8GB does give noticeably better performance in games like Shadow of Mordor and Wolfenstein, much smoother / no drops. Way more enjoyable. So I think that's the vram coming into play. With more demanding games on the way, I think 8GB is a good bet.

Well worth getting the MSI 290X 8GB, at this price it's a steal !

Send 1 back now and wait for the next gen cards to come out. A single 970 runs ok @ 1440p you just have to turn down aa a bit,
Then sell the 970 when time comes.

I was about to sli when I read about the 3.5gb memory business so I sold my other card I ordered to a mate and he seems happy enough. just don't tell him its 3.5gb

That's good to hear, I keep deciding I only need the 290, then I think I should spend the extra on the 290x 8gb as more of the new games seem to be approaching the 4gb mark.
I had decided to return my 970 was just deciding which card to get.
I think the 290x is the one though.
Thanks for your feedback
