Hi there

Ordered a couple of Tyres from Halfords Autocentre for the runabout. Noticed they are XL as that is all Halfords wanted to sell me for the given Car. Would I just inflate them to the same psi as normal?

Thanks

Yes the Tyre profile is all correct 195/50/16 as per factory spec. Albeit XL because I opted for Continental Sport Contact 2. As these are on the rear but the front end had Sunny Tyres on :o

I would rather have a matching set all round.

Slightly O/T but reminds me of my father recently berating a tyre centre trying to fit his supercharged Merc with tyres rated @ 150mph "when I never go above 90" - he is 76 and no speed demon these days I guess - I tried to explain that the tyres are ment to match the cars capability not the drivers but he wouldn't have it!
Even further O/T but a pat on the back to Mr Tyre in Stafford today, a friend wanted to have four new 215/50/17 tyres for her Focus, they checked the fronts, told her they still had at least 4mm tread and didn't change them, only the rear ones whch were close to the wear limit, it was nice to hear of such a place not just trying to make a sale over the customers actual needs.

Makes me question how he's in a position to drive a suupercharged Merc :D

There was a period of time in the 2000's when the entire Mercedes petrol engine range C Class and above was supercharged, right from the base model upwards.

Hence why you get the C180 Kompressor etc.

Indeed, his is a 59 plate C180 Kompressor - it replaced his e39 528i, he dislikes the Merc greatly, a view not improved by my recent acquisition of my 530i Sport which he's driven and much preferred(!)

I'm not sure if that's a real compliment for the BMW or more damnation of the Merc which really should be in a different league to a car that harks back to the mid 90's, but in his - and tbh my mind really isn't.

He's already said this, his first Merc, will be his last.

Yeah for some reason I just pictured something very new :p

First impression they seem to thud less over the rougher and pot holed surfaces being XL. Got Halfords to do an MOT as it costs £30

Hope they don't invent problems like Kwik Fit!

My Focus has XL as standard fit and the road noise is horrendous - If his standard fit are not XL then I certainly wouldn't have had them - but it seems tyres of a certain ratio are XL anyway - mine are 225-40-18
