think this may have been asked before, but...

gaming gpu (nvidia 970) and rendering gpu (quadro 2000D) installed in the same pc (assuming pc has 2 x pcix16 slots).
Obviously want to use the 970 for gaming and the 2000D for rendering/animation etc.

Option 1
Boot into bios choose with primary graphics adapator to use for this session.
Option 2
Boot normally using say the 970. With some 3d type apps you can choose (eg using openGL) which gpu to use for the rendering etc.

In theory could this work?

I am fairly sure this is possible.

In fact Linustechtips did a build with a GTX 780 for CUDA and a Quadro K4000 for whatever a Quadro K4000 is for.

Hopefully this helps :)

Yes. To make an adapter primary you just connect a monitor to the one you want to use and in windows display settings make it the main one by ticking the check box. Rendering/gaming will happen on the active display/card.
