Right the decision is 980 and a second next month to replace my 970 sli.

i would just go with 8gb 290X as they are very cheap atm.

I just bought a 980 D: so no deals!! Dont do et!!!

Though I'm going for a similar setup. Another 980 in a few months. Depends how well my single 980 copes with GtA5 etc.

They'll hold their value pretty well I'd say, but the opportunity to get full value back now on what for some people will already be a 4-month old card is pretty good.
