Overused/ boring topic. Is it worth changing a 970 to 980.

I'm not too sure if I should jump on the bandwagon and change my 970 card.

I have the legendary KFA2 GeForce GTX 970 OC Silent "Infinity Black Edition".

Would it be worth swapping it for a 980 for the extra or just stick with what I have at the moment?

Any thoughts would be great.

I had the exact same 970, honestly, I had zero problems with it, but if you wanna future proof yourself yes, switch to 980. My 980 arrived today and its working flawlessly, seeing the entire 4gb VRAM being utilized is also a relief.

My only issue now is coil whine -.- which I'll probably RMA once my refund for the 970 is processed.

I bought the KFA2 980 SOC, mostly cause it was cheapest and I'm quickly becoming a fan of Galax.

Time and time again I see this yet I still dont get why people see this as good.

Seeing a card that has 3.5gb of same speed and 512mb of slower saying this is awful/wrong/misleading then going to a card that has 4gb (only 512mb more of same speed vram) and then saying its future proof ??

In some reports the 970 is using 3.7gb, 3.8gb and not causing problems yet still people spend another £100-£150 on a 980 for very little extra value.

Its like buying a 3.8ghz CPU and saying it doesnt perform well in games then going and buying a 4ghz CPU which costs £100 more.

Would rather get 2x 290/X just for the raw power than a 980 even though you'll have a bit of Hawaii in your case Could be up to 40 quid or so more than a 980 and have up to 90% more power when scaling just for the fun of it.
