Good sports saloon for £20k (used)?

So what is a sport saloon than? Assuming you see either one or none of them as sports saloon.

Whilst both might fit the definition of 'sport saloon' recommending an Accord in a thread where the other cars mentioned are 500-600bhp monsters is a bit like suggesting a Honda Jazz 1.2 in a thread about the Focus RS and Golf R because 'its also a hatchback'.

Nobody in the history of the universe has agonised over whether to purchase a Mercedes E63 AMG or a Honda Accord with 220bhp.

The only problem with comparing a Jazz 1.2 is that the Jazz isn't a hot hatch to start off with, I would suggest a Suzuki Swift Sport as I consider that a hot hatch.

Regardless I think you have missed the point of the thread, the OP said what would you buy for under 20k for a sport saloon. So i gave three cars that I would buy, and one of them is an Accord Euro R, which IMO is a far superior sports saloon than a E63, which I would never consider buying if I wanted a sports saloon. A big powerful engine lumped into a bland chassis that has all the sporting characteristics of an elephant isn't a sport saloon.

I guess the the MX5 is probably no longer considered a sports car because it doesnt have a 6897bhp engine like the SLK.

The MX5 is a sports car, but it's not a sports car you'd consider alongside an SLK55 AMG, also a sports car. They are just too different.

One costs more than double the price of the other for a start :p

Again if we are going by the criteria of the OP, then that's a personal choice, I don't think the criteria is about suggesting or recommending to people what they should buy, but rather what you yourself would buy, I would have an MX5 over an SLK for example and would never consider a Merc as a sporty proposition, likewise someone else might never consider an MX5. Which is all fine, so I'm not sure what the issue of contention is here.

The opening gambitt is a E60 M5 with a V10 500bhp engine.

Gives good guidance as to alternative vehicles within that sector that the OP calls Sports Saloons.

In reality we're talking high power Super Saloons here.

I've had a MX5 mk1, LOVED it, great little car.

I love the Jag... Really, really nice car.

The OP was interested in a v10 m5. Im fairly certain he is looking for something to blow his socks off rather than something ordinary with a S badge on the back :P

Lexus IS-F
BMW M3
CLS63 is a great shout in this thread, epic engine.
B7 RS4
Vauxhall VXR8, if you can deal with the image.

Correct, but I'm entirely open to ideas at this time as like I said, won't be spending the dosh until late this year. So I'm taking into consideration all possible cars.

An M5 would be LOVELY, but as has been pointed out, it can cost insane amounts if I manage to get a duff one. Then I recently drove a modern lexus, it felt like a cheap mans beemer. But I liked the luxury side to it.

So really, my criteria shouldn't have been anything so that's my mistake and fault.

Id like a really nice smart saloon car at the end of the day. But I am taking into account the sporty and none.

Well my bad then, I assumed this was a general discussion sort of thread by the way it was worded, as opposed to one of those spec me, suggest me a car to buy ones.

This isn't going to go down well in here :D I'd personally save some money and get myself an Evo 8 - 10 after being out in my friends with him and seeing just how many 'higher end' cars it beats for not that much money whilst still being a standard car.

But that is my inner chav talking :p

Fair play, but hardly bursting with the luxuries like some of the other motors mentioned. Cracking motor if you want a point and squirt, stripped out motor though.

A mate bought an M6 for 17K and was slightly concerned about the same thing, he had some 3rd party warranty which came with the car and that paid out for a new VANOS system and a few other bits and bobs. Total wa about 6k but that was around 10 months ago now. He's had no bother with it at all since so hasn't renewed.

If you can find one with less than 60K on then the warranty isn't massively costly if you're paying the monthly option.

Oh no, entirely open for discussion more than 'spec me'. I like seeing opinions of others. It interests me.
