This is something I've always wondered. Bombs. Specifically, movie bombs. The hero is always wondering which wire to cut in fear of the thing going off. Surely the safest method is to simply grab the catalyst and yank it out of whatever they're using as explosive material?

Another one is that in many films / shows, if they cut the correct wire, the clock simply stops. That makes no sense either.

This is confusing me.

Help.
 
They had one in this week's Criminal Minds where the bomber, because he'd made the bombs at home using the Anarchist's Cookbook (hello GCHQ), had simply used the same coloured wires to construct his device. No red, blue, yellow or green wires but just standard everyday black wire.

But shirley they can make it a bit more authentic? It just annoys me that people are able to diffuse hyooj bombs by cutting a wire but can't defuse a basic detonator / barrel of petrol* affair by removing whatever lights the petrol* from the equation.

*other flammable liquids are available.

Screw it, I'm getting drunk. This is way too much for me to handle on a Friday night.

this bends my mind, how can you not have a blue wire in a bomb?
