Hi,

I am due to do a couple of months in Sydney with work.

I am trying to tag a couple of weeks' holiday by the end by meeting a friend in the USA on the way back.

For the life of me, I cannot find any reasonable airfares - as work is paying for the flight I can't justify going that way around the planet unless it is comparable to going via Asia. (i.e. within £100 or so).

Does anyone have any tips, tricks, or know of any good routings? What did forumites here do when flying that route in the past?

Air New Zealand and American are coming out cheapest, but are still a lot more than the Asia routes.

Thanks.

Nearly twice the distance or flight times.
Tried a round the world mulistop ticket?

Edit
As in fly east and then kn the return keep going east?
Multistop trip thru website such as sing airlines

UK to Australia via USA is a much longer route so you won't be finding many reasonable fares, its about 20% further than via say Dubai.

New Zealand is reached by both routes but only because its closer to the US - and even then most airlines route via Asia not via USA (Air NZ keeps it's via LAX service going mostly because it generates most of the revenue from LHR to LAX and LAX to AKL as separate trips rather than through bookings).

It's actually only 25% more. Not as much as you'd think (just checked on Google Earth).

It's also a lesser travelled route I'm guessing, which will be one of the other reasons it's more expensive, perhaps.
