gaming pc for £600 possible or not

unfortunatlet operating systems are tied to motherboards , so they can not be transferred. key code already locked to lga775 motherboard , so will need a new operting system. which i can obtain for just under %50 anyway for windows 8.1 pro 64bit.

legal copy via company in ireland that i purchase a digital download and product key. then just make a iso disc. so can use my iso disc on new system and just purchase a new key. so hard drive can be transferred and then a new windows key purchased.

then a cheaper hard drive can be placed in old system and windows installed using old code and then sold on to recoup some of my costs of new system.

old system has a windows vista 64bit and a windows 8.1 pro 64bit code iied to motherboard.

I think you're tripping yourself up with all the reading you're doing.

First off, 280x is no way a low end card, it's extremely capable at 1080p.

Onto your CPU queries, Devil's Canyon was just a refresh of the current Haswell generation of chips, they're all the same compatibility, the Devil's Canyon are the unlocked 'K' series of chips that allow overclocking.

DDR4 is currently only reserved for the really high end X99 based systems, it's totally out of the realm for a £600 gaming build, it's not even a consideration so don't worry about it, DDR3 is where you and the rest of us mere mortals are at and will be for quite a while yet.

thanks. i did re-read the spec's and noticed the k version unlocked. just so much to catch-up on i did not originally think about them using a pseudonym on models o/c and non o/c.

i been looking at nvidia cards and may see if i can get a bit extra out of my budget as not everything needs done at once and i have spare cards that i can put in old system and sell. so will get back a small amount of money for a full working pc with operating system and monitor ect.

so get the main parts now , use existing hard drive with new peoduct key. use old gt640 card until i decide on new card and sell old system.

as long as i get the basics and a good motherboard/memory/cpu then rest will follow. even a mid range cpu i5 to begin with.

My personal advice is don't get a 280X. Look at the amount of problems that people have with them and artefacts/crashing. They are a 7970 GHZ edition and quite frankly I don't think they are stable at those speeds.

Not so sure about that,i had a Gigabyte 280x,1100mhz on core out of the box and i had zero problems with it.My m8 has it now, still perfectly fine.

Never noticed any widespread issues with them anywhere if im honest.

i already tried it. i had a laptop and when i connected my hard disk up to it to test the laptop out as it had a faulty drive and wished to see if everything else was working.

it booted but gave the windows not genuine as it noticed the different motherboard configuration.

i put it back on my own system and it registered as genuine again.

so it does notice motherboard changes as this is how windows stop's one copy being used on other machines. AS in SAME KEY .

I have re-used my 8.1 Pro key half a dozen times with different mobos and never had any issues. You just need to re-register it via windows settings and a phone call. Windows will give you about a dozen sets of numbers. You just ring the UK number you are given, insert the numbers when asked, when complete, they will then issue you with another set of numbers. You just insert these new numbers in the boxes in windows settings and your OS will be re-activated.

If your Windows 8.1 was bought independently you can re-use the license, if it was pre-installed then it is usually tied to the motherboard installed / activated on.

Call Msoft when you reinstall the OS, tell them your original Mobo died and that you want to run the OS on your new mobo, they will provide you after a few checks with a new licence key.

Did on when I moved from AMD to Intelv - took around 5 mins!

Thank you will try that.

You know I see all these builds and think, unless you buy a proper gaming motherboard and brand new you can get anything really to game on if it fits your needs.

Mean I've got a gaming case and gaming psu yet the mobo is an old am3 board with ddr3 and a quad core phenom ll, now I've not put it through any game tests but old hp 775 with E6550 and 4gb ddr2 and gt630 4gb did well in certain games I tried and played just fine and cost me less than 100, in in theory my quad should do better.

Also got a 775 sli Asus, mean it's got a e6400 and 4gb ddr2 but I'm sure it will do.well in games. But lots of upgradable potentials for less than 50 quid.

That is such a decent build, I can't believe the performance you can get for the money these days, and the fact that includes a case and PSU also is pretty impressive.

Go with the bundle in my post, you will save £12.
The Crucial is cheaper and is the same as your current specced SSD and is also in stock.

The B grade wil be cheaper as they might do had a load of warranty repaired cards from the manufacturer or they might want to get rid of them.

If your Windows 8.1 was bought independently you can re-use the license, if it was pre-installed then it is usually tied to the motherboard installed / activated on.

OEM is ususally the preinstalled copy of windows you get when you buy a complete PC/Laptop. The product code will be tied to the motherboard and is non-transferable. If you have purchased a seperate copy of windows as stated you can reinstall on a different PC, just install, put key in and it will then tell you to call microsoft who will confirm the copy is only installed on 1 PC and run through the process of activation. This is the put in place so when people upgrade or replace broken motherboards, they don't have to buy a new copy of windows everytime. Install vista back onto your old pc and sell it on. On a plus note windows 10 will be a free upgrade for windows 7 onwards (so that will include Windows 8 and 8.1), I believe.
