I'm going to Gdnask in a fortnight, and would like to hear recommendations and suggestions of things to do.

I like beer, spirits, food and WW1/2 stuff. So, give me some recommendations!

I'm there Friday afternoon to Monday morning, and will be staying in a hostel in the centre of the city I think.

Thanks.

Are you going to have transport?

Last time we visited the wife's parents (just outside Gdansk), we went to an interesting WW1/2 bunker place & wood mill... not too far outside of the city but I'm unsure of public transport links.

Been there twice.

Don't hire a car, public transport is stupidly cheap, so is the beer & eating out.

Go into the old town (Lots of Jewelery shops there & its looks a bit like Bruges if you've ever been there) & to the Monument to the Fallen Shipyard Workers, the European Solidarity museum is close by in the Shipyard itself (its fairly new, they were building it when I last went there, I went to the old museum which is now closed)

Hop on the train to Sopot, nice beach & pier & good nightlife. Gdinya harbour is OK to visit too, theres a WWII polish warship there.

Cheers guys. No wont have transport but fine using public transport. Is it worth going through to Sopot and staying a night or will I be able to see the place and bars and get back to gdansk?

Going there in April - I hear that the pier at Sopot is nice. Always lots of peeps walking along there from looking at the webcams.

No point in staying the night in Sopot, its a 20-30 minuite train ride & they run quite late AFAIK. Apart from the pier, the beach, the Lighthouse & Monte Casino Street there's not that much to see in Sopot. If you like to Cycle, there's a good Cycle path that runs adjacent to the beach.

Here's some photos from a couple of years ago, with my ugly mug in a couple of them. :p

Thanks for this. Always thought about going and this helps.

My pleasure. FYI Fly with Whizzair if you can (out of the two airlines that fly direct to Gdansk from the UK) They are better than Ryanair in the fact (at the time I flew with them) Hold luggage allowance is bigger, even though you pay for carry on luggage you put in the overhead compartments. Funnily enough the flight times for both airlines have more or less swapped round, you used to have to get up at silly o'clock to fly with Ryanair but now there's a morning & early evening flight there, Whizzair is very early morning & lunchtime.

I'm not certain if the trains have started going to & from Gdansk airport yet, they were building the line when I last went 18 months ago.

Just want to bump this. Leaving next Friday and seeing if there are any other tips. Staying at stay Inn hostel which seems to be pretty central and got reservations at Kubicki on Friday night.
