I feel exactly the same as you and also "upgraded" from a Nexus 4 because the battery life wasnt great.
I like to consider myself fairly tech savvy, but what a rookie mistake not taking screen on time in to consideration. What point is there in having that screen if you cant use it?
I would love to think an update might fix it, but i dont think that will happen and they will just make good the problem on the G4 in the future.
If only you could choose to manually reduce the screen resolution to save power.
I visited a high street game console retailer today and they offered me £240 for my G3 against a used Note 4 at £460 (though they didnt have one in stock, but can get one in). Its a shame but i think this will be my next move as 3(ish) hours SOT is ridiculous.
