I feel exactly the same as you and also "upgraded" from a Nexus 4 because the battery life wasnt great.

I like to consider myself fairly tech savvy, but what a rookie mistake not taking screen on time in to consideration. What point is there in having that screen if you cant use it?

I would love to think an update might fix it, but i dont think that will happen and they will just make good the problem on the G4 in the future.

If only you could choose to manually reduce the screen resolution to save power.

I visited a high street game console retailer today and they offered me £240 for my G3 against a used Note 4 at £460 (though they didnt have one in stock, but can get one in). Its a shame but i think this will be my next move as 3(ish) hours SOT is ridiculous.
 
Yeah I'm getting 5 at the moment, and the phone is lasting the day if I'm at my PC (pushbullet/whatsapp web). I will grab another battery though and swap them through the day.

Exactly why I am dead against QHD screens on mobiles (at least at this time). I've got a OnePlus One and that "only" has a 1080P display on a 5.5" screen, but I have never had cause to criticise the sharpness. At 400+ ppi it still looks extremely sharp, but QHD offers no discernible benefit in sharpness but absolutely hammers the battery.

IMO, lack of SD card aside, I actually think LG ruined the G-series with the G3. While it is a great looking phone, the reduced performance and battery life over the G2 is not worth it considering the G2 already had a pretty spectacular display.
 
^Yep nice summary there. LG believed their own hype and with the runaway success of the G2 did their own legs in with the G3.

There's certainly no need for 2K screens on mobiles at the moment given the choice I'd take a 1080p screen over 2K every single time.

No there's rumours that the G4 will launch with a 3K screen...

The G3 was easily the worst out of all the flagships - pointless 2K screen, battery life as poor as a Nexus 5 and laggy as hell.
 
is it worth it switching from xperia Z2 to G3 16GB, i was offered to trade my Z2 which ticks all the boxes but curiosity makes me to try the G3, has anyone gone the same route?
 
I certainly wouldn't.

In return the G3 will bring you a slower stuttery experience with extremely poor battery life.
 
I've not had a G3 but the one underlying theme in this thread seems to be the battery life. If you go from a phone that has great battery life to a poor one its going to be a bad experience :(
 
WhatsApp still seems to be brutely slow after the update. It wasn't bad on kit kat. There must be a load of unoptimised apps for android l on the g3.
 
the Z2 indeed has great battery life, but at the end of the day i still charge it overnight, i cant risk going to work with 40% battery the next day. My battery usage is like 5 hours SOT, 2 hours of calls, ~30 sms's, BT headset always connected and about 300mb usage (wifi+cellular), and i have ~35-40% battery left at 21:00 every day. Will the G3 have at least 10% at the same time? cheers
 
I'm looking at ordering one of these and it seems like a good deal at £299 from Amazon.

I need something with a decent camera and this looks about the best I can find for under £300. I'm not wanting to order from other countries and 16GB is more than enough for me.

Is this the best option for £300. All the reviews I read seem to love it but reading this thread there seems to be issues with lag and very low battery usage ?

Is there anything better for under £300 unlocked. I'm not wanting a contract deal.

I did look at the Nexus 5 but this looks spec wise at least considerably better.

Have you considered a One Plus One ?

A lot of members on here (myself included) are very pleased with this phone, and they are currently a bit easier to get hold of than they one were.
 
Thanks for the recommendations.

I have decided to go with the G3 as the SD card slot and removable battery are a big plus for me. Also it coming unlocked is essential for what I need.
 
had g3 since release... not once have my noticed any lag (i use nova launcher) and battery does only last a day for me with a lot of use at work and listening to footy and podcasts...

but plugging it in every night before bed really isn't a 3rd world problem!
 
Most phones would need a charge at night so that's not the concern. The issue would be if it didn't make the day. I use a lot of screen time on the Z3 which is where I think the g3 struggles (when you hit the sack go into battery usage and you'll get a better breakdown)

But battery usage is complicated some apps can shred through my battery - now tv for example is bad. Also a bad signal will adversely effect the battery and a whole other load of effects which make this a difficult compare
