This is the first time I've had to do this :( I need a replacement Battery for a 2.5T Mondeo. Possibly today if a long motorway journey doesn't help!

Suggestions?

ECP? They always seem to have a sale on batteries and you could probably pick one up today if you have a branch near you. I got a heavy duty Exide one from them a few years ago but I'd probably go for a Bosch one as it's starting to struggle to start my car now in on cold mornings.

Bosch. Does your car have the Ford smart charging system?

Go to a motorfactors and rock out a Bosch!

Worth taking into account Varta and Bosch are the same battery with a different label can normally be purchased for 10-15% less.

That's just what I hoped for. I'd done some browsing on ECPs and found a Bosch. I'll get one tomorrow and my 2 hours run down the motorway should at least last me to get to work tomorrow.

Looking at this one:

Again, if your car has Fords smart charge system, you need a battery that is silver calcium plated instead instead of lead acid. The S3 you linked I'm sure are lead acid.

Remember what I said before about me having a problem with the Ford bluetooth module being responsible for battery drain on the S-Max after I changed the stereo ;) I started getting the low battery warning message on the dash and didn't drive the S-Max anywhere for 3 or 4 days but the battery was dead after that - could unlock/lock the car and use the stereo but it wouldn't start. It's possible that as your car is driven a lot more that you haven't noticed the problem until now.

Just trying to potentially save you from buying a new battery only to have the same problem in a week or so as that's exactly what happened to me. I ended up buying a new one and I didn't have to. The old one still works absolutely fine now it's been charged up and now the bluetooth module is disconnected it's fine even if it's left for days at a time.

If your Mondeo had bluetooth as standard I'd at least try just giving your battery a charge and finding and disconnecting your Ford bluetooth module and seeing how you get on. It seems that the Mondeo and the S-Max of these eras share a lot as the interiors are very similar - and I suspect even the stock head units themselves are identical

Should have been clearer in my post, the Varta batteries are the identical to Bosch ones but cheaper (Varta produce them for Bosch).

Here is the same battery from Varta for £17 less.

As pointed out above you will need to confirm if your car has Ford smart charging system before picking a new battery.

That's a good price - I think that's equivalent to the Bosch S5 which are over £100 on ECP.

The Bosch S4 and S5 are silver calcium.

The Mk4 Mondeo will have smart charge.
