BF Hardline - AMD cards getting panned (not by much)

I do love how broken the FB engine is :S

That said I suspect a lot of the difference is due to the level that nVidia has hacked DX11 functionality and hand optimised replacement functions for code that sits between the DX core and the drivers - both for threaded performance and for better compatibility with nVidia GPUs. In some games its not so significant but it seems in BF4 and by extension hardline that it has quite an impact there.

oh do come on, there all pretty close to each other and in the order i was fully exspecting. Don't start a flame war where there is none.

In his defence, it isn't so much about the frames, as about the overall performance (frame times). This is where AMD are getting panned but it is a Beta and I am sure AMD will have some decent drivers for it come release or soon after.

With a name like "Brent Justice", I trust him :D

Anyways...

In this larger 64-player map it is even worse for the XFX Radeon R9 290X DD video card. The frametimes are much higher than the GeForce GTX 980 and there are massive peaks in frametime. GeForce GTX 980 maintains a more consistent frametime, with less craziness.

Summary

All AMD GPU based video cards experienced this horrible frametime behavior. We certainly did not need graphs to tell us this as it is obvious in gameplay. It should be noted this game is being run in DX11 mode, not Mantle since Mantle isn't supported in the beta. Clearly AMD needs to do some driver work for this game to smooth out these frametimes. There is a big problem in terms of consistency, choppiness, and stuttering in this game on AMD GPUs, despite high framerates. It needs to be addressed. As it is, NVIDIA GPUs feel much smoother in this game even with lesser framerates when the settings are turned up.

So basically Amd performance numbers are fine but frametime's are not so good. There's a good chance Mantle will be in the final version which should in theory increase Amd's performance and make there frame times superior to dx11 from both vendors.

Increasingly it does appear that AMD are neglecting their DX11 drivers where a game will be supporting Mantle... which is fine when there arent also problems with the Mantle version (which tend to get blamed on the developer)

Struggling to see what you are saying here? The guy said how choppy it felt on all AMD cards

Of course it is Beta and not the final release and I am sure AMD will get this running reasonably well in time.

Someone like myself who fussy about games smoothness I would have noticed and and from my playing the performance was perfectly fine. Frame rates could be higher in some places and once they fix the cpu issue and DirectX issue the game will be much better.

One simple driver or patch could fix everything they talked about in the "beta" pointless benchmark pointless.

Well, I think I will take [H] methodical testing over your word Shanks. You say you don't see tearing and other bits, so I can't really class you as a reliable source (no offence).

I have seen a few threads recently of no CF support and some of these games are getting on now. Maybe the staff cuts are to blame?

So no one thought about using the GstRender.MantleEnabled setting in the PROFSAVE_profile to toggle Mantle on and off.

Oh dear :(

Dodgey drivers is my bet, maybe they are hoping to put Mantle back in and save it? who knows.

I do wish they would stop using that XFX Card, something isn't right with it.

Avr 50 FPS in Dust Bowl? how is that even possible? i run a 290 and the lowest Frame rates i get are 75 FPS @ 1440P with maxed out settings, Avr is about 90 - 100 FPS.

The performance of BFH is significantly better than BF4.

No offense, I don't exactly see you saying the same when there's some 970 users keep banging on how their 970 has no problem, and arguing against other 970 users that are experiencing stuttering and other performance issue...you were naturally taking side with the 970 users who were claiming not having any issue, and accused of "AMD users" kicking up a fuss making a big deal out of an "non-issue", when it was 970 users there were most vocal about it, and "AMD users" were mostly commenting on (or make fun of) the false-advertising aspect rather than the performance and stuttering issue :p

So it is ok for some 970 user express they have not problem with the 970, but it is NOT ok for shankly to express that he's not having problem? He was stating his own experience, and I don't recall him claiming it would represent the experience of every other AMD users.

May be you shouldn't classify reliability of information by positive about Nvidia/negative about AMD= reliable source, negative about Nvidia/positive about AMD=unreliable source? :p

Anyway, this game is still in beta (aka an incomplete game), one users experience may vastly vary from another user's...wait till the actual release before judging. Much rather games is broken while they are still ib beta than still broken when they make it to the shelf. But judging by pass records, I would hold my breath...

First let me preface by saying I prefer AMD hardware over Nvidia, my last cards have been 290 Tri-x, 290 ref, 280x, 7870 and 6950.

By panned I meant the frame times only, this is probably due to an inferior driver most likely because the game will use mantle on AMD gpu's

We all know Mantle is a much smoother game than dx, that's why I'm taking the results with a pinch of salt

So I should ignore [H] and believe a random forum member who is clearly AMD biased?

And what on earth does my position on the 970 issues have to do with BF Hardline? Talk about OT and selective reading LOL ;)

Am sure video footage of posted is enough to back me up.
It's was perfectly playable, and I expect my standards of playable much higher than yours.

Didn't get my point across properly in my original post, I was referring to your double standard.
