Suicide mission to Mars

Please provide a source of this magical 20 year long life span, LED UV light, that's suitable for long term human use and I will admit you are correct.

Stop being a troll.
You know full well lights can be made with any wave length and led bulbs of decent quality have extremely long lifespan, there is nothing magical about it.

Just like I have led bulbs that have specific wavelengths for plant growth.

yes! these have been around for years! Didn't you ever study physics???

No source then....

Originally when I put the idea out there that they must have to have a sunbed or sunlamps on the ship you moaned at me..... Now you're saying the ship is full of them?

Its ridiculously easy to create an LED bulb with some UVB output. They would last for 10 years or more, especially because they won't be turned on and off all the time, just left on.

Even if you have mass failure and need to wait for a new shipment, Mars ins't utterly devoid of UVB, and suppliments are easy to pack and store.

No one is saying that setting up a manned base on Mars is easy, but it is certainly technologically acheivable if we can be sufficiently bothered to do so.

Safe is total exposure, try using that thing between your head, they can create bulbs at any wave length and at pretty much any reasonable intensity.
It's not really a bulb we require on earth, it is however very easy to get one made.

it obviously won't since it's not designed for that purpose but that does not mean it's not possible to create one.

also theres a light bulb that's been going for 113 years they only fail because they are designed to fail so you buy more companies don't like going out of business because no one needs their products anymore.

also good doc about mars colonisation and how it could be done from a guy who worked at nasa

Yes ok that's fine.... But my point all along is that it isn't a sustainable solution as there are no replacement bulbs...I know they are meant to last a super long time, but there's been reports recently that the stated life is often misleading and not accurate. Simple problem like light bulb failing on earth is fine, mars it's a huuuuuge problem.

Oh god. You mean other than spare ones you bring with you, or new ones you order for the next mission.

You were wrong to start with saying you had to bring 100% supplies with you, Wrong about bulbs. In fact you've been wrong about everything.

well I'm sure light bulbs are the least of there worries.
No way I'd go to mars unless like in the docu above the plan was to have the return ships on mars already creating fuel before the humans ever get there.

Lima. There will be light. We have the technology! >.<

Do you think they are going to sit in the dark, masterbating?

Would not be surprised if they kill two birds with one stone, with the lighting to see by being full spectrum itself.

Edit: Has anyone seen the film "Love" (2011) ?

I can't believe someone's biggest worry is how they would provide adequate lighting.

I'm pretty sure all the fundamental stuff like that has been well researched.

It was more a point of how well thought out everything is and how the most simple things would be it's downfall should they fail. The only reason I carried on with that stupid debate about lighting is because glaucus was biting and it's a slow day at work lol.

You need to calm down Glaucus. I know you're passionate but you're also being aggressive with it. And you don't know all the answers to the fair questions being asked. I suggest you breathe and realise you can say "I don't know". :)

Just calm it please.
