.......my Aygo sounds really tappety at cold. Almost swear it was a diesel! It's an 09 reg with 51k miles. Doesn't help I've got a large steep hill (out of Lambourn if anyone is local) to climb almost immediately on my commute home, so requires revs as torque is none existent in lower revs. Not in the mood for the engine blowing up. Oil is checked every couple of months but did leave it a tad low, but still above the min mark....

Is it that bad? They sound rough and unbalanced at idle at the best of times. So long as its not actually loudly tapping i can't see there being an issue.

I assume you've checked oil etc?

Had the car nearly 6 years. Feel the hill climb on cold doesn't do it any favours. Oil is fine, topped up at Christmas. Just slightly concerned one day it'll 'go' on me and really can't afford that. It's either 40mph in 4th or 30mph in 3rd to get this thing up. No idea on revs but I do try keep below 3k revs for first ten mins of driving.

Can't see why it would honestly be causing you issues, unless you're turning the key then immediately hammering the thing up said hill before then stopping the engine again

They are chain driven engines, so it's possible it has developed a bit of chain rattle as the miles have gone on.

It's hard to say without hearing how loud it is or what the exact sound is though!

The C1 was the worst sounding car I've ever experienced when cold. So much so that I nearly walked back into the dealers to ask for another courtesy car because I thought it was knackered! I'm sure it is fine. If the oil is at a good level then I wouldn't worry about it.
