Hi all, I have about £100 to upgrade my Graphics card and have been trying to work out,

A: is it really a big upgrade from my current 5830 ?
B: If so how much of a difference will it really make ?
C: is there really a big difference between the 750 & 750Ti

I know they are OC but is it really worth it ? do I really need it?

I play the normal sort of games like Company of Heroes COD etc...

Don't play Battlefield bit to fast moving for an old boy like me :D

Pallett used to do some good cheap quality cards have they any that fit my bill so to speak?

Grateful for any thoughts or ideas... ;)

Without knowing your power supply it's hard to recommend a GPU.

I'd honestly pick up a second hand HD7970 or a GTX 680 for that money.

However with that CPU though it'll really hold back any GPU really, I'd be surprised if it isn't already.

Both cards I've mentioned are a massive upgrade over the HD5830 even a GTX 750ti would be a pretty decent upgrade.

If you're going to stick with the 750's though here's some benchmarks to consider with a game you're currently playing http://www.anandtech.com/show/7764/the-nvidia-geforce-gtx-750-ti-and-gtx-750-review-maxwell/12

Battlefield is too fast for you but you play COD?

The difference between the 750 and the 750ti is massive, don't go for the former. A 75ti will plug right into your motherboard and give you decent performance without having to upgrade your PSU. Don't expect to max every game though, it's still a low end-ish card.

According to these synthetic benchmarks, you're looking at roughly double the performance before overclocking, and I've had my 750ti screaming in the overclocking department. Seriously, it just seems to take all the hammering I can throw at it.

Or go for a used card, which opens up many more options with much more power but more than likely no warranty.

By being to fast I mean the youngsters tend to play it, too much happening to quick etc, I tend to set up my own game and allow a certain amount of people thats all I meant by it..

Thanks for the advice.... the CPU was only ever a stop gap to get the pc up and running when I first built it a couple of years ago the idea was to get a i5 as the prices came down and later chips come on line....

Those figures for the R7 265 over the 750Ti are amazing considering the small increase in extra cost..... ..

I am not interested in getting a second hand card just don't need the hassle should I have a problem with it and get the "Well it was all right when I sold it to you!"

So really need to look at the R7 270 cards then loads on offer is there a definitive guide to them?

Thanks for the all the comments really appreciated

At that budget, if you're at all serious about playing games, you want a 2nd hand card. Can get a 280X for that, or (sometimes) a 290 for a little more.

I'm not serious about playing games at all, just enjoy them occasionally between running my business and a hectic home life..... I just would like more definition in clarity etc...

The card I run runs the games OK on medium settings would just like to turn it up a notch that's all!

I have no idea why people insist on saying go for a second hand card despite the OP clearly stating that he has no interest in buying second hand and I don't blame him.

For your price point a 270 will probably be the best option

See this is where its starts to get silly, just find another £40 etc etc.... don't worry about the mortgage lol...

I have a budget chaps I have to stick to it :(

I appreciate that, but it'll be easier knowing your power supply though buddy.

On here the R7 265 goes for £110
The R7 260X for £90
The cheapest GTX 750ti is bang on the money for £100 (well with 5p to spare lol)

But really as an upgrade to your CPU you might have to second hand as the z68 platform is dead, which is not a bad thing an i5 2500k can be had for decent money on fleabay and still hold it's own by today's standards.

Your budget seems to have crept up a bit :)

But either of those would be a good upgrade, although i do believe that OCuk have 72h rma turn around deal with powercolor so may be worth a punt over the sapphire

6 of one, half a dozen of the other tbh. Those two are probably the best 270 cards out there, short of paying much more for enthusiast stuff which is wasted on these mid range cards.

Personally I'd go for the Powercolor but I'm biased towards them as my first proper gpu was a Powercolor and I loved it. Never let me down and looked the business.

Sapphire is probably better, they have a reputation for being the best OEM for AMD.

Really good cards you'll be impressed with both I still have my R9 270 and I've had no problems playing games at high with a stable framerate.

Benchmarks from anand, however please to take them with a pinch of salt both cards by now have had driver updates to improve performance
