I've always noticed when driving that there have been tyres on the side of the road without the sidewalls, tread only?

What's with that? I don't understand why only the tread remains? Surely it would be complete or just bits of tyre rather than a complete tread.

The tread is generally separate on lorries, hence they can have them retreaded, which is also why when one blows up here big chunks of tread fly everywhere (happens a lot!)

Delam, usually off retreads on trucks.

This.

See it loads on South Africa as the heat there causes this to happen much more.

It's also the reason I don't hang around trucks on the road, if you see one of those tyres go, your life flashes before your eyes  :p

110psi aren't they? Seen one delam infront of us, bits of tire hit the windscreen, plumes of smoke... plus trucks aren't limited here, they regularly overtake you doing 80+

I was on the motorway a few years ago, three lane motorway. We were in the outside lane, a tyre exploded from a truck on the inside lane, it was like a grenade going off, rubber splattered all over the side of the car.

The guy in lane two swerved very quickly into our lane. We were side by for about 5 seconds until I hooted the horn. Luckily they were very wide roads.

Closet I've ever been to being in a crash.

Now I tank ahead of them quickly!

I hate being beside a lorry on the bike, the thought of being next to one when it goes scares the crap out of me.

A tyre went on a Golf in front of me on the M4 last week. I was in the middle lane doing 75 indicated and the Golf came tearing past me. Some 5 seconds later I hear a loud pop and he starts pulling over to the left. Thankfully they got to the hard shoulder without incident but was wondering how a passenger tyre would go pop like that. Surely neglect somehow?
