Nvidia: what I want to share with you will redefine the future of gaming.

:p

LMAO ... oh Nvidia, how can we take you seriously atm.

It might be a shield based console but still, changing gaming, seriously, get a god damned grip on your marketing hyperbole.

It's the 5 years thing, how can you say Shield 2 or Shield tablet would be 5 years in the making. Android based consoles are a dime a dozen in China and other places and plenty of android gaming devices.

I don't really use Nvidia products and have had literally no interest in streaming games from AMD, Nvidia and whoever else has tried it, it's retarded. On the one hand bemoaning a 16ms delay as being so long that you need g-sync, they say 200ms for streaming games online is great. ANyway, have they got a full streaming product out, could this be a launch of a proper service in the vein of OnLive, some kind of fully supported, subscription based gaming service from Nvidia then a range of android tablets or a android console like box to run it for a tv?

Still redefining the future of gaming... with Nvidia/OnLive 2?

Finally... they used my suggestion to enumerate monitors proper way (primary monitor never be #2 again) which leads to problemless real multimonitor & multiplayer gaming @ PCs: two/three players using two/three devices (mouse+keyb/joystick/gamepads) and separate monitors = all connected to the same, one PC ;-)

Shield confirmed, lame :o

From [H]:

its an android device if you look around android sites are getting invites as well. mostlikely a sheild set top box that you can stream from your computer.

Now where are all the people who tried to get AMD in the stocks for something they never said, let's hear your thoughts on Nvidia hyperbole.

And from the source of the [H] article

If you're wondering what NVIDIA has been working on for the last few months, you'll only have to wait a few more weeks to find out. The gaming and graphics company has sent invitations to technology press, including Android Police, for a presentation on March 3rd in San Francisco. According to the email, NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang will be demonstrating something "5 years in the making" that will "redefine the future of gaming."

Android fans are obviously looking for something centered around the new Tegra X1 chipset, which NVIDIA demonstrated last month at the Consumer Electronics Show. That particular event did not include any new consumer-grade hardware, instead focusing on the X1's impressive specifications and applications for embedded electronics in the auto segment.

The original Tegra chipset was announced in 2008, with the first product to use it being the Microsoft Zune released in September 2009 - a little less than five and a half years ago. That being said, the announcement is quite vague, and NVIDIA has interests far beyond Android and mobile in general; it is the largest provider of discrete PC gaming GPUs, after all. It's possible that the March announcement won't have anything to do with mobile. An invitation to this site does indicate that whatever will be shown will be at least somewhat relevant to our readers.

I should also mention a previous report by Android Police stated that a new generation of the SHIELD Tablet would not be released in March, though that doesn't preclude an announcement. This event will be held, perhaps not coincidentally, just days before the beginning of Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. It's possible that the announcement of OEM products in the US could be swiftly followed by manufacturer announcements in Spain.

Android Police will be reporting on NVIDIA's press event.

So in fact far from confirmed, it might be but certainly not confirmed.

Also as DM has pointed out how can a replacement for last years tablet be five years in the making.

I hope it's something good, New card or feature/tech. But my gut feeling is it's going to be something poo 99% of us won't care about.

Probably the same way that DX12 can be, with lies. :D

lol yes, bru, while yes them saying 5 years in the making makes you think it's something a little more significant, they might do a shield 2 and say "we've been trying to put a 360 console power mobile and right in your hand, we've finally done that today (for the like 5th time... but this time we weren't lying... maybe)"

:p

They've compared their flops to the consoles on their mobile chips for ages, apparently matching it with the T2, then the T3, then the T4, then the K1... maybe they'll match it again with the X1. When they keep making the claim it doesn't half make you think Nvidia hasn't moved mobile performance forward in the past 5 years though :p

They largely do this by comparing flops differently, the X1 (may have been K1) was talking about how fast it could do FP16, even though in gaming speak it became standard for how many flops a gpu could do to be talking about FP32, making their chips look far better than they really were. WOuld be like telling everyone Titan hit 10TF performance, then comparing it to the 7970's what, 3TF of whatever and just not telling anyone they are comparing Nvidia FP16 to AMD FP32 for no reason at all.

Honestly I just can't put android based + a mobile chip together with redefining gaming. "With Shield 2 we will provide unmatched levels of gaming performance..... while you sit on a toilet...... unless you had a decent laptop 5 years ago"

If it's a new shield then nVidia will be thinking along the lines of. First shield took 3 years to make then its took about a year and half to finally get the shield 2 ohh screw it, its been 5 years in the making right here! And our die hard fans believe anything even if we say it will redefine the future of gaming LOLS.

I am willing to put money on it being a Steam box.

I'd agree with this, and would be genuinely excited about it. They must want in on the console action. We're long overdue a genuine pre-fab steambox, though I did enjoy creating my own mini-itx steam box for the living room.
