There have been rumours about this for a few months now but they're gaining more weight and momentum. Weaver, Biehn and Henriksen have all said they'd like it to happen.

Basically a few weeks back, a load of concept art was released online for an Alien movie Blomkamp would like to make. The reception was hugely positive and it seems each day there is a new bit of news about.

This is the latest I read today, linked from Lance Henriksen's FB page...quote is from Weaver.

“[Neill] kept sending me these brilliant designs and ideas and everything. We’ll see what happens,” said Weaver in an earlier interview regarding a new film in the Alien franchise with Blomkamp “We just left it at such a creepy place, sort of stranded above Earth. I was quite happy to move on to other things, and I didn’t want to go to Earth. I didn’t want to manufacture a sequel, and I felt like we were starting to do that. If something happens from this, it would be very organic and very original, and because of that, it would make me want to do it. If it was someone as talented as Neill, I’d certainly listen.”

The concept art is superb and i'd love to see this happen. Loved District 9, was lukewarm to Elysium but think NB could do a good job.

Let's face it, probably going to be better than Prometheus turned out ;)

I agree Mariusz, however cash-ins, are made purely for making money, with little regard for how good the film actually is. If this were that and just another attempt by Fox to regurgitate the Alien franchise with some clueless director, then quite frankly, they can shove it where the sun doesn't shine.

Alien 3, is a prime example of cash-in. I like it, it's not great and certainly not in the same league as Alien and Aliens, but I do enjoy it, or more to the point, the extended cut. Fox made such a hash of it. It's possible that it's only watchable because they brought Fincher in. Had they not, then it may have been much worse. However, they didn't allow him full control once they brought him in. Had they done so, I think it would have been a much better film than the one that was released. Their meddling ****** Fincher off so much, that he has washed his hands of it.

If that was to happen all over again with this possible 5th film, then again, they can shove where the sun doesn't shine. This is Blomkamp's idea though, and he will only do it if they allow full control. If that happens, then hell yes, I would want to see it.

If they won't allow him full control though, then I imagine he will walk and they will just try and do Alien 3 all over again, but maybe this time with a weak director who will just do what they want without argument.

What I really liked about the first 2 was that they were gritty, produced pushing the edge of what you could do with a shoestring (sort of) definitely don't want to see a CGI fest of style over substance. I'm not sure there are many directors and studios left who have the talent or stomach (business wise) to produce what an Alien movie really needs.

I have no interest in this, I don't believe there are any directors and writers out there capable of making a movie worthy of the IP.

I dunno I reckon Bryan Singer could potentially pull off successful updates to Aliens, Bladerunner, etc. type movies. Definitely not many left though that could.

There's tons of great Alien stories out there. <points at comics> If Hollywood would stop screwing it over and treat it like one of the many successful comics franchises doing the rounds, they'd do much better.

No one ever complains about the visuals or the effects. That's something Hollywood is good at, it's the stories they always mess up with, so find the existing great stories that have already been successful and then don't screw around with them.

I want an AVP movie based on Ryushi

Of course there are people capable, but they might be relatively unknown. Scott and Cameron were relatively unknown at the time they made Alien and Terminator, respectively. The problem is that these are big franchises now and unknown directors, have no real control when making these big budget films.

I'd be more inclined to agree that there are possibly very few well known respected directors/writers who could make a good Alien/Terminator film with enough of a name that they can call the shots and the studio listens.

Me too but I think that franchise has burnt so many bridges with it's poor handling of 2 of the greatest sci-fi aliens ever that any further AVP films wouldn't make it past the boardroom level now.

God no...district 9 was probably one of the worst movies ever made. Elysium better, but keep him away from Alien..there's been enough **** sequels already.

Come on, Elysium better than D9? One of the worst movies ever made? Really?

Anyway, apart from the stupid looking Ripley/Alien hybrid thing, the concept art looks great. If he's managed to find a way to bring back Hicks (looking like he does in Earth War), then shut up and take my moneh.

Not a Blomkamp fan here either, I never saw what the fuss was about over D9 and Elysium wasn't anything special.

I've watched all of the Alien movies at least a couple of times but the standards slipped way down after the first two - they should just let it be and do something original for a change.

I thought Elysium was absolute dump, D9 was worth a watch though.

Think it's time to leave Alien alone.

D9 was great, Elysium was ok but not fantastic. Will have to see what his new film brings.

lol what? It's the other way around, District 9 was a breath of fresh air, and Elysium was absolute garbage.

Also, Aliens is brilliant and the Assembly Cut of Alien 3 isn't too shabby. Alien Resurrection really was the pile of poo in the series.

Fair enough if you didn't like DS9, but to call it one of the worst movies ever made, then say Elysium was better.

Still, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Maybe that's one of the things that makes the human race so interesting but confusing at the same time, that someone can have an opinion on something that makes sense only to themselves. :p
