windows Phone - who's tried it?

Show me a Windows Phone flash-light app that needs to access your contacts.

I don't know what "downf" means but it's sad to see butt hurt Android fans criticising WP and admitting to have never owned one.

Oh don't be ridiculous! People are pointing out that you've posted nonsense and you haven't managed to produce any facts to back anything up. Reverting to the whole 'you're just hurt because your such fans boys' argument is frankly just lame.

I have an iPhone and used to have a lumia 920. In my opinion the windows phone ui is nicer and I prefer the way that apps are organised by name in a list rather than the big iphone icons that look cluttered.

The biggest thing is the swipe keyboard. It is so much better than the iPhone keyboard and the third party swipe keyboards that are available.

The big problem with Windows phone is the apps, even when they are available they are not as good as their iphone versions (the tesco grocery app is the first one that springs to mind).

They also have a problem with drop down boxes in the browser. Apparently windows phone implements the standards correctly and it's caused by poor website coding. Iphone and Android have workarounds to fix this so the user doesn't experience problems. There are Web forums full of people arguing against this because it's 'wrong and not to standard'. Apparently user experience is not top of the agenda.

Finally I had terrible customer service when my lumia broke. The attitude was atrocious so I decided to get an iPhone mainly on that point.

I really like windows phone. My 1520 is a great handset. Not sure what apps I'm missing. I've used Zune for years so all my music is with xbm. Smart glass also integrates really perfectly with my Xbox. I have a cheap windows phone as a spare and my wife has my old 900 our whatever it was.I can get the days out of the 1520 battery with reasonably light use.

I was an android order for about 5 handsets and don't miss it at all.

Well my WP experiment is coming to an end. Placed my order for a 5c today. Am I going to miss my WP? Not in the slightest.

That's the problem, icons are boring, iOS, Android... all the same dull icons.

I've programmed phones for 10 years, sat many an hour contemplating UI design, personally I think MS nailed it with WP8.1.

Get kona in here, he will show you how to make Android look awesome.

Work has given me a Lumia something-or-other.

Interface is ok I guess. The really annoying thing is if the phone is switched off and I insert the charger cable it turns itself on  - why?

I originally thought this was a bug but apparently it's a 'feature'.

Funny argument, is the reason I left Droid to never go back is, well I dont trust Google in any shape or form or sevrice they offer.

But mostly the god awful UI, its an absolute mess between OEMs, filled with junk gimmicks. Also, the comeback argument about changing everything or rooting, to me that's a bewildering fail of a product. Ever seem most of the customer UI shown here, most are laughable with homescreens with barly anything on them, with no information presented to the user, you don't even know whos phone its is.

Although its quite clear how this forum has gone down, the sheer amount of Android love is odd, and when anyone dares prefer WP they are shot down.

I think the speed at which windows phone operates even on low end hardware is fantastic. I do believe however, that the apps that are available cross platform are better and more polished elsewhere. My biggest gripe with it was that it didn't have a Santander app, and that the youtube app was poor.

My first windows phone was a Lumia 520, then I got a 625, and now I have a 1320.

I love them and think they are really good. For me, all the apps I need are available but I understand that there are a lot of apps now available at the moment.

In terms of where windows phone is going? I think I could answer that with "the right direction" as wp10 looks excellent and on the grander, long term scheme of things I think it will bring in more apps when the whole "one platform" is implemented.

I came here to say this! To me the primary value of a smartphone is the quality of its apps and using Windows Phone feels like you paid to be a beta tester.

I will say this much - I thought the screen on the Lumia 930 was stunning. I'm assuming they are amoled as the black really was fantastically black compared to lcd!

Its the Clearblack lens the put over the screens that gets that, its been or was a Nokia thing for a long time.
