That seems very high for an old PS1 game.

The PS1 version was only around 300mb on a CD..

Aye, new engine, new textures etc etc. The only thing that's the same is level design and gameplay.

Yeah, completely new. The only assets they used were the original high resolution 3D scans of the clay models they had made for the character models, which were movie production quality as far as I know.
