** THE BEST GTX 980 DEALS IN UK & NVIDIA REFERENCE 980 IS BACK AT OcUK ONLY!! **

I know what you mean mate, I'm waiting for the OcUK reference cards to go back on sale and then I'll hit buy on 2 of them. I know there are cheaper alternatives else where but with the OcUK support recently I'd like for them to keep my business.

I bought 2 of the ocuk reference 980's you won't be disappointed they are superb

Its so annoying as I've sold off my GTX 780 to find a new one but not buying at the prices now. Happy to stick it out with a lower end card.

Come on Gibbo, lower those cards & watch the flood gates open. Could be a good plan to shift those Nvid's with the emerging AMD line ???

I'm hoping the prices do reflect the £'s rise against the $ as I'm still waiting to get the 980, went back to the 290 and man was it loud and hot compared to my 970s :|

Not at all, Well just in the power usage department, Brilliant piece of tech and very powerful it's just that on average it put my electricity bill up by £1 a day compared to even running 2 way SLI 980's.

I used it on average for around 4 hours a day for maybe a few days at max, Might not seem like much but that's £28 extra a month which could be put into something else :)

According to my killawat I used just shy of 800w with the 295X2 and only a smidge over 450 with SLI 980's when I had the chance to test with a mates 980, That's a butt load in my book.
Emm,according to this review there is a 150w to 200w difference:

Even at 350w(which seems rather high),at 20p a kWh(which is on the high side of the uk average) that works out as around 28p a day.
That works out at around £100 to £110 a year if you played 4 hours a day everyday for a year.

I don't know anyone who would be gaming everyday of the week for a year.

Consider that dual gtx980 cards cost £800 to £900 at least and that the r9 295x2 is around £500ish IIRC,it will take at least three years to get the money back and in reality much longer.

Have you seen the price shift on the 295x2 ? They move between £50-£100 weekly & sometimes daily, xmas you could bag one sub £500. Now they are sub £600 ??? ... Crazy shifting !

You also have to factor in buying a new PSU.

I can SLI 980s on my 750w, I could crossfire 290s (not Xs) but not overclock them. Also, the 980s run cooler, which is important for my mATX case.

There is a £200 difference between the cheapest I could find the 295X2 and GTX980 - which is a lot of electricity however I can easily believe you can make the difference in power use over a year through if your running the PC for several hours a day or 24x7 and do a fair bit of gaming every day - especially if your using higher resolution/Hz displays where your gonna have to forgo the power saving states the 900 series can do to keep the 295X2 stable at the bandwidth levels required.
