Alien 5...Neil Blomkamp helmed Alien movie

A dead Hicks would be even better... Not sure how they would work around that outside a reboot, even if Biehn is interested.

I didn't like District 9, just didn't take to it at all and I really tried to enjoy it because I wanted a movie like it :( Elysium was also meh, just nothing special at all. Basically I think nothing of what that guy has done justifies him touching the Alien franchise. I mean, it can't get much worse with all the AvP crap, but I don't want it to happen because I can only see him further shoving it down the drain.

The only time I would lift my head and pay attention to a new Alien movie would be with Ridley or Cameron at the helm. Personally I'm more of a fan of Alien than Aliens, I think it's one of the greatest horror movies ever. It has scenes that still send a shiver down my spine, including one of my all time favorite movie scenes ever involving a chain, water and a cat ;)

If the film retcons 3 and 4 out of existence then I'm all for it.

Yea! Lets have Hicks back :D

Not too sure about this, I'd love for it to be made and be on the same level as Alien and Aliens but that's asking an awful lot.

I loved District 9, but thought Elysium was a let down, I so wanted that film to be good and thought the premise was pretty good it just work out very well.

I loved both, I can take 4 for what it was an action film. People just don't seem to be able to get over that you will never get the suspense you did with the first one and part of 2. You have seen enough of them and it's all been done before you can't recreate that feeling of the first one.

I can only see another action film. I'd be happy with a a film along the lines of trying to clear earth with starship trooper levels of aliens and combat :D Of as in one of the books a stowaway alien that escapes when they land back on earth and how quickly the Earth gets decimated.

To quote a comment from Dread Central

I don't want any more dark and creepy Alien movies. I want to resurrect the **** kicking Colonial Marines and have it all be a nightmare. I want Hudson back and Vasquez! I don't want this deformed Hicks or Ripley in weird Alien costumes or in any kind of non-human relationship to aliens. I'd like to see a rescue movie where the old gang teams up with new Colonial Marines and rescues a grown up Newt from some colony.

Yes!

Neill Blomkamp is Officially Taking on an Alien Sequel!

District 9 and Elysium helmer Neill Blomkamp made headlines last month when he posted a series of concept art designs for a new film in the 20th Century Fox’s Alien franchise. Although the filmmaker admitted that the designs were unofficial, he hinted that he’d be more than happy to take on such a project. Today, Blomkamp posted a new image with a message that should make Alien franchise fans pretty happy!

“So I think it’s officially my next film,” he writes!

At this point it’s uncertain precisely what route the new film will take or if Signourney Weaver (whose Ellen Ripley was featured in the concept designs) will be returning to the franchise.

“[Sigourney] knows about it,” Blomkamp told ComingSoon.net last week, “and part of it was just inspired by speaking to her on set when we were filming ‘Chappie,’ and getting her thoughts on ‘Alien’ and what she thought of the movies that came after ‘Aliens’ and what she felt about Ripley and what was incomplete for her about Ripley. There was so much fuel in what she was telling me.”

You can read more about Blomkamp’s thoughts on the new project right here and check back for further information as soon as it becomes available!

Blomkamp’s latest, Chappie, also stars Weaver and lands in theaters March 6!

While there’s no telling how indicative they are of Blomkamp’s current plans, you can check out the original art he posted in the gallery viewer at the bottom of this page!

UPDATE: 20th Century Fox has since confirmed the news, clarifying that this is, indeed, a sequel to the original Alien franchise and not the Prometheus sequel currently set for release March 4, 2016.

I like the idea and in my head am happy to write off the Alien 3 and Alien 4 movie to bring back some of the cast.

Great thing is it is set in space so time warps, parallel universes and alternate futures can be written in. Even without, a good sequel to Aliens is welcomed.

The artwork looks interesting, the recovered Derelict is logical after Aliens. What happened to the Derelict was never explained, I always felt we were left with the assumption it was destroyed by the Nuclear explosion of Hadley's Hope Colony.

That really didn't wash with me as at the start of Aliens they explained the colony had been going 40 years. If it was close enough to Hadley's Hope to be destroyed I am amazed they hadn't bumped into it in the 40 years they were there with 500 or so planet engineers.

Even after the destruction of Hadley's Hope, Weyland Yutani were aware of its existence so surely it would have been logical to send a science team to that rather than chase all over the galaxy after one women then spend the next few hundred years trying to genetically clone her.

Or maybe I just think too much.

Alien 4 was diabolical, true, but I wasn't that upset with 3. Sure, it could have been better, but it wasn't a bad film, really.

At least they aren't going to clone Hicks from his DNA and have him give birth to a cloned alien ;) It's already better than 4!

Could it be worse than Prometheus? Is that possible?

Why not just create a whole new alien franchise with a different alien. How hard could it be to create something similar but not the same. I guess film investors are more likely to bet on an existing IP than a new one.

I am not really getting were Prometheus is going. It was suppose to be a prequel but then Ridley Scott wanted to distance himself from Alien.

So all he did was pull parts of the Alien film and make something that didn't make all that much sense to me.

All we ended up with was a Derelict, some engineers and different species of Aliens that seem far more advanced and deadly than the ones in the Alien franchise.

I fear Prometheus 2 will be more of the same.

Before Prometheus I always had in my head that the Derelict and its pilot was some kind of explorer that had discovered the Xenomorph species on a planet and was transporting them back to a home world or somewhere for study.

Prometheus has overcomplicated it to me with the engineers and genetically engineered species etc.

One of the successes in the original Alien film was it's simplicity. Find an Alien ship, pick up a life form that goes around doing rather unpleasant things. The rest is left for you to guess or wonder why and how.

Reading a little further Prometheus 2 Aliens will be even less connected to the Alien franchise monsters, work that one out?

I was under the impresssion with Prometheus that Scott didnt want it to be an alien film (or feature any sign of a Xeno) and just have it set in the same universe, but Fox were against that idea?

With regards to Alien 5 (or is it 3?) id like it to be set back on a ship, gives you the feeling that you cant escape the Xeno(s)

I cant wait, as long as its Dark, got guns and is an 18!! (plus stunning looking Xeno's) ill be happy :)

I just think that Fox are right on this occasion and Ridley Scott is barking up the wrong tree.

He is concentrating on the Engineers which although interesting, are not exciting or frightening in the slightest. They may bore you to death over a pint.

The other thing is this obsession with Weyland Yutani corporation. In Prometheus they think they have the location of a ship or planet and send a massive expedition to investigate (with a ship that pre-dates Alien M-class freighter but is about 300 years more advanced).

Then skip to Alien and if you continue the story that Weyland Yutani is already obsessed with the Engineers it trusts its latest find to a passing freighter and inexperienced crew.

Skip forward to Aliens and Weyland Yutani with the obsession have built a colony on LV-426 but wait 40 years for a chance encounter with Ripley and only then send somebody to take a peak.

Without Prometheus the story is so much better. Alien, chance encounter with alien signal. Send them to investigate and then realize the importance and set recover more important than crew.

With the recover being a disaster it is largely forgotten about until the pick up of Ripley. A rogue company man then instructs the colony that has been put there by probably coincidence to investigate. All goes Pete Tong so they have to send in Marines to destroy, rogue company man is trying to get rich on the discovery.

After Aliens you can see why the company is becoming obsessed as it destroys everything they throw at it and they have large military contracts.
