When your phone flashes up with the number 020 0000 0001, Your either in for a MBE or

"I'm calling about your recent accident"

Doh:D

How much did they pay for that number

That isn't even a valid number range. It is one way these companies are trying to bypass people blocking them calling. Using outgoing VOIP lines you can present any number you like on outbound calls (with the correct PBX setup). Technically you have to legally own the number you want to display but many unscrupulous companies do not care about that and so display anything. I know when I was first testing SIP I used to use 5318008 as my outgoing CLI :)

Caller ID spoofing.

Like how your work phone system probably shows the main reception number as the Caller ID on outgoing calls that you make rather than the specific line that your call has been placed on.

Well I felt special for all of 2 secs.

Maybe I should have gone with

Caller: Can I speak to mr XXXXXXXXX
Me: Hello, How did you get this number?
Caller: We have you on our database, Sir
Me: You can't have, This is a secure Government line which is not available to the public or any companies.
Caller: I am so sorry, I will have the number removed straight away.
Me: I need your name, your company name and address. I also need to be put straight through to your supervisor.
Caller: Of course straight away.....[Gives me details requested and puts me through to manager]

Manager:Can I help you
Me: Your company seems to have accessed a secure government communication line and you will need to speak to someone from another department so we can ascertain how you have come to have sensitive Government information and communication details.
Manager: I am so sorry but its on our database and it automatically rings the numbers....
Me: Well, you need to remove the numbers straight away and someone will be in contact with you shortly. Thank you for your time.

CLICK!!!!!! followed by a chuckle

I am so going to do that next time :D.

I still enjoy;

"Hello, would you like to save money on your phone bill?" - "I don't have a phone"

"Hello, were calling about double glazing" - " I don't have windows" - "we do doors too" - "I don't have doors either sorry".
