What do you get if you cross a Mazda RX8 and a Volvo V70

I currently own both a Mazda RX8 and a Volvo V70 D5. The first one is a blast but hardly practical, and the second is pretty boring to drive but has a huge boot. It's time to go back to a single car that is somewhere in the middle of these two, trouble is nothing in my price range really excites me.

I'm looking to spend around £4-5k on something that has to have some power, definitely can't be diesel, and needs to be at least a bit more practical than the Mazda. Any ideas?

Sorry, I have no further input :o

Hmm some options here.

Focus ST looks interesting, I'm not a fan of Ford really but I'm probably not being fair to the more modern ones.

Mondeo might be a bit too naff, doesn't seem to be much better than the Volvo really other than slightly more power but again, I haven't driven one. The ST220 seems to have apretty poor performance/economy ratio (much like the rx8!), but the ST-5 version might be interesting.

Mazda 6 looks terrible :P

Subarus are an.. interesting option I guess, seems like they'll be a bit ropey maybe and they're certainly no looker.

I'd expected more suggestions of hot hatches, like the Focus ST, Audi S3, Golf GTI maybe. Something mid sized with enough power/handling to keep things interesting. The Volvo is an excellent cruiser but we don't really need that, rarely doing long distances.

for £4-5k you wont get many of them suggestions.

Unless you don't mind ropey high mileage or write offs?

There seem to some about on auto trader after a quick look.

E46 330s seem to be very over-priced compared to other things. I used to own a couple of E36s including a 328 sport which was ace so they would be an option, they just seem bad value.
