BMW 2 series GT

Like the devaluation of the Mercedes brand when they started making FWD hatchbacks and bargain bucket commercial vans?

Mercedes have always been a three-pronged brand. They made good vans, good trucks and good cars. Somehow they managed to keep being a premium brand even when most of the taxis in Western Europe were Mercedes saloons.

Whether they still make good vans (the small one is a Renault) or small cars (Smart/Twingo) is open to question, but they don't seem to have any trouble shifting A and B class cars and as far as I'm aware their trucks are still very much premium vehicles.

BMW need this like they need a hole in the head. It's not the ultimate driving machine it's a Steyr-Puch built vanilla-wagon with a BMW badge on it. Competing with VAG is daft for BMW. They should stick to what they are good at and (re)create a brand (like Mini) if they want to go downmarket.

Saw one of these in the flesh the other day and it surprised me in that it didn't look as bad as I thought it would. It's not a pretty car in the slightest, just not as ugly as I expected.

Nice car IRL. Nice and roomy, good quality interior.
But it's a BMW C-Max and I don't want one.

Can't understand the hate personally.

It will sell well. I just think it's a shame that it's front wheel drive. I guess if they adapted the 1-series platform they would lose too much in interior packaging to be competitive.

I don't really see how it's "ugly". About as exciting as wallpaper paste, perhaps. But it's not offensive to my eyes. It just looks like another MPV aside from the BMW styling cues. It's more pleasing to look at than all the recent French things.

Mind you, I don't think the F20 1 series is ugly either (although the M Sport looks infinitely better than the poverty spec versions), so perhaps my opinion is invalid. :p
