Baby doesn't look like on current passport photo.

Passport was issued when my daughter was 2months. Right now she is 4yrs old. She still has a year left on her current passport. Can't seem to find anything on directgov. Don't wanna book tickets, fly out then have problems.

I rang passport office, and they where confused too. Saying you don't have to. But, may have security issues where ever you go.

Do i have to renew or can i still use this? Any advise will be appreciated.

Thanks

Technically you can still use it as a child passport remains valid for 5 years.

Where are you planning on going?

I'm sure I read something about needing to renew passports if appearance changes drastically when my adult passport was due to expire.

It's common sense really, if it does indeed look nothing like you anymore then there's going to be a fair chance it'll cause an issue somewhere.

Most countries do a 0-3 passport then 3 five year ones (3-8,8-13,13-18) to take the child up to age 18.
Strange the UK does a 0-5 as there is massive variation in appearance.

I would renew to avoid any problems, it would really come done to whoever is on the border as whether they let you through or not. You should get an extra 9 months added onto the new passport so you really wont lose out on much!

Question is why issue a 5 year passport with a photo to a baby that can obviously will change appearance from its birth upto 4 years 364 days later? (at its absolute longest)

Sounds like BS nonsense to me !

I agree it's probably worth renewing just to be sure, otherwise at best you won't be able to relax and at worst it'll ruin your time away.

Because 5 years is the standard for child passports?

The 5-year child passports are crazy. My son flew when he was 4 months old. How can they possibly expect the passport photo to be still valid when he's 5 years old?
They should make them 1 year in my opinion.

We got our daughters when she was 3 weeks old. She now looks nothing like the pic and she's only 7 months.
Sod getting a new one though, it's her and she legally has her passport for 5 years. Cost me a fortune. :p
