Replacing an i5-3750k overclocked to 4.5ghz

No point for games.

Spend it elsewhere or keep it and wait for something more significant to upgrade to.

Do you have an SSD, nice keyboard+mouse or how about a stunning monitor?

There's nothing really worth upgrading to in all honesty, not within that budget anyway.

The obvious choice is 4790K+mobo but you're only going to get about a 20% increase at best and the majority of situations you'll not notice anything.

You'd probably see more benefit from a new monitor or something like that depending on how old your current one is, especially if it's G-Sync enabled.

i can pay nore for a boards just thats all i want to spend on a cpu id stretch to a 150 board as well just dont wanna take the ddr4 approach

My monitor is http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-121-IY&groupid=17&catid=1851 so thats good enough

yes i have a corsair k90, steelserise rival, iiyama 144hz monitor, ssd and razer naga 14.. my cpu and board are getting on a bit now

They may be getting on a bit now but the new tech will only give you a minor upgrade in terms of gaming performance, it's in the region of sub 15-20% which is just a waste of money.

If you really want to change something, get a 3770k and use that, but there's nothing I would change there. Even going x99 wouldn't make that much of a difference.

What are the exact issues you're having? My 2600k @ 4.5ghz with a 290 is perfect, can't ask for more.

Keep what you have!

im not seeing many issues just feel like my frames fluctuate a lot when playing BF4 or titanfall when there is a lot of people on a server or even diablo 3 when **** loads it happening i drop to about 30-50 which im sure it shouldnt

5820K is the obvious step up but it's expensive what with the price of X99 motherboards and DDR4.. either that or a second hand 4930K+mobo if you can get one.

If you can't afford either of those then you'd probably be better off waiting to see what Skylake/Broadwell bring to the table.

In a nut shell:

G-SYNC technology synchronizes the monitor’s refresh to the GPU’s render rate, so images display the moment they’re rendered. The result: Scenes appear instantly. Objects are sharper. Game play is smoother.

I don't think you'll get much of a frame rate increase in the games you've mentioned from just upgrading your cpu - it's already pretty capable. If I were you I'd save up for either a nice gsync monitor or a new graphics card. Those two will affect the perceived smoothness of your gaming experience much more than a new cpu.
