Herman Miller Embody Owners

I'm very tempted by a Mirra, just awaiting on another chair to be delivered and will see how I get on with that first.

Always liked the Eames design of chair and have gone for one of those variants (a copy/repro as I can't justify the 3k for a proper licensed one!) as have always wanted one.

However if it's no good I'll likely plump for a Mirra, been using a dining chair the last year or so now so anything's better than that ;)

Any more long term insights into chairs like these? Been looking for a vast upgrade, as I got a DXRacer a while back as an upgrade from a cheap Staples chair but I think it isn't for me, as while it was fine for a while, recently my legs/back have been aching while I am on it, I'm only only 21!

Figuring I should probably nip the chair thing in the bud before I get old and problems show up, I've been talking a look at the 'known' ergonomic chairs - Steelcase leap/gesture, millar Embody, etc.

Definitely looking for opinions on long term use of chairs such as the Embody, as they look quite nice. :)

Have had one at work for coming up to 2 years. It's still like new and has performed perfectly. I have not known anyone to have an issue with theirs in my department and there are abut 100.

I've had my Embody a while now. It's wonderful.

Aberdeen huh? Can I come try it out then? :p

How is the 'creaking' issue I've been hearing about? It appears to be quite noisy from what I've been hearing about, but I really want to like it. What's your build?

Sure.

I've not noticed the creaking. I have the chair set up for me: if you don't have it set up correctly, it will be uncomfortable after a while. As for build, I have it in blue with carpet runners.

Hrm, I will probably take you up on your offer then, depending or not what happens with the Steelcase Please I just recently discovered, mostly unknown because it is EU only, so didn't have the US market to scream about how great it is - but it looks damned good.

And by build, I meant your physical build, not the chair. Height and whatnot. :p

Hi, I posted this as an individual thread but thought I would add it here too...

I bought a Herman Miller Mirra 2 for long periods of home working and gaming but found it gave me coccyx pain (I don't think it is wide enough for my big 110kg rugby player's unit). I've had to resort to using a £20 coccyx cushion after only one day!

The online shop I bought the Mirra 2 from has suggested I return and replace with a Herman Miller Embody. Having never sat in one I keen to hear from anyone who has a Herman Miller Embody to ask how they find the seat pad:

Is it well cushioned compared to the Mirra 2?
Did it solve your coccyx pain?
Is it wider than the Mirra 2?
Should I look at something else?

I've a Mira 1 and Aeron at home and a mix of all the range in my office in London. I have had zero issue with my coccyx on any of them and I have been a regular daily user for decades. My advice is if you have such a pain you need to go and see a back specialist as in my experience coccyx paid was due to bad pelvis alignment which in turn exposes the coccyx. Deal with that first then deal with the chair. I am a similar size to you, a bit lighter but sadly not much at present. When you are not on the Mira where do you sit? No matter how good the chair if your alignment keeps going out of kilter (such as from a sofa, car seat etc) then no matter how good your office chair is you will suffer pain. A bad office chair of course could cause back pain but the HM seats are pretty much renown for their excellent posture alignment.

Thanks, that's good advice... it is strange that some seats aggravate it while others don't. The only consistency is the wider and softer the seat the less pain I get. Do you have an Embody at the office in London? Is it softer than the Mirra 2?
