I see what you mean but my understanding was that in my case it wasn't to pick up "cannisters" of transmissions but rather "intercept" them - ie. when I dropped out of supercruise something "pinged" and I got the comms top left telling me that I'd done what I needed to (there weren't any cannisters floating around as far as I could see!)

This was supported by the fact that the mission on the bulletin board seemed to suggest that I'd done what was necessary - it was just the "Give Cargo" button that was "redded-out"!?!?!

Yer, you will often get a counter offer from another ship and it is up to you if you choose the counter offer or continue on with your original mission.

When it says"Intercept Rebel Transmissions", it means pick them up and take them back to that station/dock. The rebels drop the cannisters for someone to pick up and then clear off. There will be no ships about when you fly to the correct USS and will just be white blocks on the radar and when you lock on with your cargo scoop open, you will see if it is Toxic waste/Art/Rebel transmissions/Military plans etc and if it isn't what you need, ignore or pick up and sell on the black market (make sure you have enough space for the actual amount of pickups you need).

That's the exact setup I'm using Stevie. Docking is extremely simple with the vertical and horizontal thrusters but I still cannot get the L/R trigger on my throttle stick to be assigned the L/R thrusters or it removes Yaw. I have to use the KB.

It's a pain.

Also, is it worth taking on illegal missions early on for more creds? Got one offering 5000 for intercepting transmissions?

Or is it easier and safer to do a few transport runs first?

To be honest I don't use the L/R trigger for yaw - mine is mapped to twisting the stick left and right - I find the L/R thrusters mapped to the POV hat on the stick as the easiest solution!

I'm fairly sure that all I use the L/R on the throttle for is to switch between tabs on the in-game UI!

Regards illegal missions, I've been reluctant to take any on in case it affected the stations I could dock with - the closest I've come have been the "considered illegal" one's which haven't caused me any problems - other than not being able to collect the reward for some bizarre reason in my post above!

Ah! So something needs physically collecting every time? Weird how the wording in the mission seems to suggest that I've been successful even though I've not actually scooped up the goodies!?!?

Next time I try one I'll try and lock on and cargo scoop them up!!

Thanks!

You might have been successful in completing the counter mission that you were offered. In some cases, you don't even need to do anything, you just fly to a station and dock up and you can complete the counter mission without having to collect/kill anything.

Ofcourse if you picked a mission to increase faction standing, then you've probably shot yourself in the foot as the counter mission will probably lower your standing with the faction that gave you the mission in the first place.

Yer, I did the same and the red "give cargo" button was showing but the response was like I had done it :D Puzzled the crap outta me and I thought it was a game bug lol.

I might add a few vids on my youtube channel, as it can be very confusing for new players.

Good luck and I am still pretty noob at the game but still loving it.

I have twist for yaw, L/R on the throttle for left/right thrusters.

That's how I want mine and that's what it won't let me do. I don't think Stevie undestood my problem but my explanation wasn't great tbf. I have yaw setup on the twist stick accessed via twisting the stick left and right. However if I then try to assign my L/R thrusters to the triggers on the throttle stick, it removes the Yaw from from the twist stick. It doesn't matter which way I do it, as soon as I assign one, the other is removed. It won't let me have both assigned to each stick at the same time.....!

I'll take a screenie when I get in.

Have to be so careful leaving spacedock

Finally got the credits to upgrade to a Cobra Mk3 so upgraded the thrusters + frame drive to the top models :D then overdid the throttle leaving spacedock got clipped by another ship & exploded inside losing a lot of progress :(

Just like when someone inexperienced gets a supercar & totals it :p

Harsh!

I remember in the Alpha, where the costs of the Anaconda went down to about 3Mcr (or something, I can't remember) everybody bought one and Beagle 2 landing was full of people smashing them against the station, as it's a nightmare to fly compared to the normal ships :D

The Anaconda it by far the hardest ship to dock I have had. Great ship but first time out of the dock, I was smashing into the toaster hole. Thankfully I was going very slowly :D

Edit:

I see BD+03 has ended :( Still, I made the top 40% and get a 20% discount, so not all bad :)

Back to trading for a bit then or perhaps some nice exploring....

Top man! Logged back in at lunch and instead of the mission simply expiring I got a message saying that I wasn't alone in not completing on time and the deadline had been extended - shot back off to the system in question, locked onto the USS and cargo bay'ed the 3 transmission canisters!

15k credits thank you very much! :D

Had a brief look on my control bindings and I couldn't see that assigning the throttle buttons to left and right thrust wouldn't work!?!? Will have a closer look tonight to see if it works and let you know!

Sweet and glad we got there. ED does have a bit of a learning curve and I made so many mistakes (and still do) :D

grrr

turns out that conflict zone discount only applies to the station it was given at, which is pretty deceptive as it was a "global reward" which to me means a discount at any station for 7 days.... just a shame the station in question doesn't really have any of the stuff I was after.. Also went to another federation high-tech station in case they meant "all federation stations" but there was no discount.

Oh well...

edit & FAO Gregster; just read on the frontier forums that apparently the discount is "broken" *apparently* and isn't being applied properly.. so hopefully it is actually global, and just needs fixing..

Coolio thanks. I got my B8 power plant for 43M instead of 54M, so I am a happy chappy and only have 25M left, so need to do some trading hard to get:

A7 Thrusters (current A6)
A8 Power distributor (current A7)
A7 Shield Generator (current A6)

So, roughly 140 mil needed :D

err wtf

someone claims they bought an Anaconda from Matteucci for 117Mcr .... which would mean the discount applies to the shipyard as well... (I didn't even check)

... or it's a windup, I cba to fly back right now, but might check in a bit - even if I sell and rebuy i'll save about 20M

I didn't think to check either. I headed over to Yembo to grab my 80K trophy lol

Had intended to use the 20% discount to upgrade my 'Conda, but after giving it some consideration I think I'll "downgrade" it to pure trading/exploration spec and put the credits saved towards a Fed Corvette or the Imperial equivalent once they're released.

That's if temptation doesn't get the better of me when I'm in outfitting... ;)

:D

I'd definitely recommend trying this setup for your HOTAS X - there is a nice printable reference sheet too!

The only tweak I've made so far is to remap the vertical thrust to the POV hat so docking is loads easier!

This is the same setup I use, it's really good once you get use to it, I swapped out Silent running for Shield Cell, and I like the idea of swapping vertical thrust into the hat, will try that tonight I think!

Just a few questions before I buy this game and the joystick to go with it.

I really cant decide what joystick to buy for elite dangerous? I've watched like 50 videos on youtube and read reviews but its hard because I keep changing my mind.

At First I thouht the X52 and then I thought x52 pro and then x55 pro and then went back to x52 pro. I just dont want to make a mistake when spending £150 for a joystick. But I really like the look of both the x52 pro and x55.

Also when you buy the game do you have to wait for the DVD to come or is it instant digital download?

Thanks in advance.

I'd go with an X52, I've heard of people having problems with the X55

Also yeah - it's downloadable :)
