Tbh, two wf 780's aren't ideal in sli if you have tight mobo spacing and a smaller case. A mix of one wf and a reference cooled model would work better for cooling. When spaced close together, due to the cooler design the top card gets much hotter than the bottom one. You'd be fine with a reference blower style card in the top slot and the wf in the lower slot where its fans wont be blocked.

Hmmmm, that could work, my current card is a 'blower'. It seems the 780 is now a rather hard card to find from retailers. But second hand it's out there for a couple hundred.

Will a 980 hold it's value when Nvidia finally move onto a new range of gpu's?

Your current 780 is a non reference type, more commonly referred to as a heat dumper. As they don't exhaust via the pci bracket. I run two of these in sli and the top one can get upto 80c in games. Bottom one never goes any higher than 67c. A reference card blows air through the slots at the back so case heat is kept a bit lower in sli.

Aye, I'm thinking of going to 980... If I had 780ti I would stick to either sli or nothing. But that little bit more... Ooomph has me curious and after all, when gaming, silence is key to me. Absolute lowest fan speed possible as it's part of the cinema system...

If it was a desktop PC and I used headphones 90% of the time, SLI it is.

Cool, I imagine as it's a simple version not the G1, there being no actual hardware difference, it's simply a case of flashing the firmware to make it think it's a G1? Obviously voiding warranty.

Pretty much and the weight of the cards, the G1 feels like its made from stone.

Haha, brilliant.

Well, I've tried to google but I can't seem to find concrete evidence suggesting the none G1 is locked, but I'd be surprised if it had the same OC'ing capability as the G1, as you'd simply buy the none and then OC it to the G1 spec...

Am I missing something? What would you do?

Dont overlook the Crucial MX100/BX100 SSDs in that size, they are still quick and cheaper options.
