Hello
we are still looking at moving and are now thinking of the Basingstoke area.
It will be fine for me as I can get a direct train to London for work.

My wife has a business in Windsor and would need to drive there Tuesday to Saturday.

Does anyone have any idea what this commute would be like during the week?

Thanks for any help you can give.

If it's rush hour I'd avoid J11 M4 like the plague!! Also watch for home games with Reading FC and London Irish.

Also, if you don't mind me asking, whereabouts in Basingstoke you looking at? Some of my friends live there and I went to college there so know the town pretty well

At rush hour, the Basingstoke - Windsor routes are always going to be troublesome, at least an hour each way and maybe more if allowing for severe traffic.

In terms of living in Basingstoke, focus on Chineham / Lychpit or further out towards J7 - anything close to the centre (Oakridge, Popley) are worth avoiding if you can afford it

From Bagshot to Windsor is a nightmare at rush hour both morning and evening. Got a friend who commutes from Farnborough to Slough, which is similar to yours. She would rather brave the M3, M25 and then M4 which can take up to 2h in severe traffic so that is saying something.

Basingstoke to Shinfield then to M4 I have known to be a little better on the odd times I have gone trhough them, except that it is mostly single carriageway so if you are stuck behind something slow, not much you can do.

The problems start beyond Shinfield once you've crossed the M4 though. I travel from Hook to Winnersh via Shinfield and that part of the journey alone regularly can take an hour without the bits either end

Sorry, but why don't you head to Jct10 M4 and aim for Winnersh that way?

Apologies for slight thread derail!
