I work for a company that doesn't provide any training. Last year I spent £2500 on a course and exam. I have just booked another exam which I will take in the next few months. Is there anyway I can get tax relief on this as a PAYE employee? I have previously managed this when i was a contractor.

Thanks.

When I looked into this a couple of years ago what I found was that basically the answer is no.

The only way you can get tax relief I believe is if the training you undertook is essential for your job. The vast majority of self-funded courses do not fall into that category.

Doctors have been able to claim tax relief on their exams for a few years now, and we're PAYE. Not sure if we are a special case though.

I looked into this, I think the general gist I got was, CPD, LLL or other training courses are deducatable, anything that has a personal qualification isn't.

I think if your company you worked for payed for the training, they would get the tax relief not you.

If you worked for yourself and were registered self employed it would be tax deductable..

Your situation I don't think you can get anything :(

there are some accountants on this forum who I'm sure will confirm
