Nope, well, not if you have enough cash for insurance.

When you die you're transported to the last station you were docked in, and presented with a screen showing prices for buying back your ship/all the kit on it. If you can afford it, wahey back in the game - if you can't, time to cry.

You don't have to do anything to "take out" a policy of sorts, it's just automatic when you die.

Complete novice question but if you die, you start from the beginning again ?

Not sure if it's this way in later game but I got killed yesterday (my own fault) and it just plonked me back at the station with the option of starting with a new Sidewinder or use the insurance to get my old one back (with the additional cargo storage I'd bought). Cost about 50 creds to have my old ship back.

Can imagine it'll cost a damn site more with a better ship with bells and whistles.

I've just carried out a black box retrieval mission that I picked up at Dirac Enterprise - shot over and got the black box but when approaching the station to deliver I was scanned and fined 10,800cr for carrying illegal cargo (the mission was only worth 12,000cr!)

Anyway I've docked with the station and got my reward and the Federation fine is sat there waiting to be paid, so....

1) What happens if I don't pay it?

and

2) Is there any way to avoid being caught like this in the future?

Thanks...

The problem with black box missions is they are illegal, so best to do them in places that have an outpost (not a letterbox station). That way, you won't get scanned and can receive all the bounty.

Pay the fine. It will only play havoc when you keep getting hunted.

Fines turn in to bounties once the countdown runs out.

To avoid getting scanned, stay out of the way of security ships and don't hang about when squeezing through the letterbox. If a scan starts, just get through the slot as fast as possible, don't turn, slow down or back off. A scan takes about 5 seconds to complete so as long as you get through in to the station in that time you'll be fine.

But I don't wanna!!!! :(

but I guess you are right....thanks for the tip about the stations, I won't be making that mistake again!

I did one of these earlier. The reward was 15k. Got scanned and fined 5k so it was worth the 5k hit for 10k profit. Not sure if the fines chop and change though as in yours being 11k! That's a killer.

I also didn't know about the non letterbox stations not scanning you. That's handy to know.

:D

It worked well for me. I just stuck to the outposts and the credits soon came in. If you get interdicted when you have a black box or anything stolen, don't turn around to see who it is, boost away and jump to light speed asap. What is even better is if the outpost you are doing the mission at has a black market. That way you can sell any extra black boxes/military plans or anything else you have picked up that is worth some credits.

Tried playing this today for the first time after getting a 290x but as soon as the game starts to load it goes back to desktop while it's still going. If I click on the tab it flickers to the game then back to desktop again. Anyone know how to sort this?

I went there but didn't see it :(

And I should now have enough to buy the new ship

I just need to get some credits to kit it out.

You referring to the corvette?

I'm thinking of starting with the federal rank missions, because they're a pain and take quite a while - and I think you'll need to have quite a high rank with the federation before you can buy it..

Ahhhh, They have not offered me a mission in forever? I wanted to rank up as well to the top rank but the missions all stopped :(

Do more missions for stations you are not allied with

A tad hard, as I am allied with the Federation. My rank is Ensign and all I keep getting is an unobtainable mission to get the Exbeur permit (which I already have). That mission can show 2 or 3 times in a star port as well.

I am going to open a ticket. I couldn't get the Sol mission either and they automatically gave me it.

Fair enough, even if allied with Feds, you won't be allied with the station factions.
Although since the last patch it is harder to know what your standing actually is with the local factions - They say "Allied" on the screen but your ACTUAL standing with them isn't.

Getting them to friendly seems to be the best way to get more Fed Progression missions.
I had permit missions for ages until I stopped trading and just did normal missions.

Now getting rank missions.

Head to a system you've not been to before and do loads of missions for them?

I get this glitch too mate, very odd.
