Hi All,

I am having an issue on my desktop computer (windows 7 64bit Pro). After the windows symbol for about 20+ seconds I am getting a black screen with a cursor in the middle before it proceeds to the login screen.

Now here is a quick list of things I have tried to fix this:

Start-up repair
SSD Check/optimization
Disabled un-necessary stuff in startup
Re-installed Graphics driver
Removed any unused devices/cables

Now the only thing I can think to do is a fresh install of windows but I don’t want to do that as I would have to re-install everything again and it would take me ages.

I don’t have windows restore active.

Any help greatly appreciated

is there anything in event viewer that could help narrow down the reason for the delay?

did the issue just start one day or did something get done before the issue started like new hardware or windows update?

ok, have you tried a clear cmos option and see if makes any difference? also is the SSD on the latest firmware?

when you get chance check event viewer for system and application errors\warnings

You can run msconfig from a run box in Win 7, this will show you most of the background programs that are launched on startup. Alternatively you can use autoruns which is much more detailed

Although this won't show how long each item is taking, it will at least give you an idea of what is running on startup.

Has this always been an issue or something that's only just started happening? If the latter, are there any drivers you've installed recently?

I used advanced driver update on my computer not so long ago, I thought it could be that and then rolled it back to before and its still the same issue

I had exactly same issue with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit on my dad old Dell laptop when Nvidia driver no longer worked properly with old Geforce 7900GS years ago so I found a workaround installed Windows 7 basic display driver fixed black screen I finally able to reached login screen to logged in to desktop.

So try install Windows 7 basic display driver.

Just noticed a fan was stuck, touched it and it started spinning again

The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device ACPI\PNP0A0A\2&daba3ff&3.

is the error in the even viewer, but I am still getting black screen

I knew what this device is, had same issue with my ASUS motherboard.

Try download and install ASUS ACPI driver for your motherboard.

ASUS_AMDA00_ACPI for Windows 7 32/64bit & Windows 8 32/64bit & Windows 8.1 32/64bit.
