295X2 or Gigabyte 970 G1 SLI

If its not 2x 980s, then i wouldn't bother, as the 970s have a VRram issue, and Xfire has really gone down the pan as of late, lots of complaining about it.

Way over generalizing, the only complaining i have been seeing is no profile for a slew of shoddy codded NV sponsored games which i have no intention of buying anyway because besides those CF is great and it just keeps getting better, its not like gaming starts and ends with those titles.

Hi guys this is my predicament. I need cards now haha. I've had SLI before and thought it was good and optimized well, however the 295X2 looks ace and for the same price is the SLI it got me thinking.

Would love peoples input before i make an order :D

My current system:
Intel i5 3570K @ 4.8Ghz (Also tried with stock settings)
Asus Sabertooth Z77
8gb Corsair 1600Mhz RAM
Samsung 850GB Pro
OCZ 12500Watt PSU
ASUS ROG Swift 1440P 144HZ Monitor
That's one hell of a PSU you've got there!

People want to use both their cards (or however many they have), not just one of them, and in any game, even in your so called shoddy Nvidia titles, its no good having to wait about 3 months for an Xfire profile in a new driver, when by the time its finally arrived, the chances are, that those waiting for it, would have already completed the game on one card, making their second card they got for Xfire, utterly useless, and a total waste of time buying. :)

The reality this happens from time to time, but people would have been enjoying CF before those games and after those games, so no Xfire is not a waste of time buying.

I would not forgo something that benefits most of the time just because it cant all the time and on day one every time, going without would then lower my over all experience, its not like a single card is having to carry the weight of the other card when its not being used so would be better off without it at all.

The games makers cant make a properly working game on day one and still is broken 3 month later and the gamer has completed the game, but a gamer is then surprised and more upset that a company that didn't make the game should have a perfectly working multi GPU profile when it does not work as it should even on a single card because of the shoddy coding and some how its easier to code a multi GPU profile and is a magic bullet and it can always be solved and quickly at that even without the game being fixed even for single card.

If the foundation is shoddy dont be surprised if others have difficultly building on top of it.

Have you done a clean OS install?

As that looks more like a software conflict than a hardware fault.

This is just the start, fresh install of windows, cards work fine on their own.. put 2 together and consistent freezing on the desktop, strange performance and just a complete mess. I'm very unhappy.

Aaand, I've tested using a different PSU, RAM, bioses, EVERYTHING

EVERYTHING

MB have an Nvidia PLX chip in it?

XDMA mgpu doesn't play ball with that.

Running XMP profile on Ram?

Could require more voltage.

Got a dedicated sound card plugged in a PCI-e 4/8/16 lane?

You might have to remove it/move it to 1x slot.

OSD(Origin/Steam/AB/Raptr etc)/Java/Recording software conflicts can also show that particular symptom.

I'd talk with OcUK CS before blindly sending back for a refund, as you've said the cards are working-they'll just return it no fault found= ~£30 out of pocket with no solution.

Oh don't worry, I've been keeping them updated, just let frustration get the better of me there since it's a very odd issue and I've tested all the things above.

I'm guessing the most likely option is a piece of software that is conflicting with the CrossfireX driver.

im using the 295x2 and gone eyefinity 3x dell u2515h 2560x1440.
total resolution 7860x1140 and battlefield 4 using mantle can get up to 70 fps on ultra. the Amd 295x2 is a no brainer. love it.

All up and running, temps look amazing, was a right big bugger, didn't realise how big the rad/fan was :O

Just literally put in on Ungine Heaven and noticed it was giving me the same frames as one 290X does, forgot wasn't they a regedit I needed to change to allow the second card to run at full speed please? CrossfireX is enabled in the settings

Load up a copy of MSI afterburner and use it to disable ULPS.

Are you running in full screen mode? Crossfire under DirectX requires this.

Cheers guys, the fullscreen did the trick!

All im going to say is OMG, got some screen flickering but that's down to the mini DP adapter, got a startech cable coming on Monday!

Right game time :D!
