Where to go in the far west of Italy?

I've got a weekend coming up soon and don't have any plans, so me and my friends have decided to drive to Italy.

I want to keep the distance to a minimum really, and I don't want to go to the Alps/go skiing as I did that a few weeks back. We're just looking for a nice town, ideally with a few bars and restaurants where we can spend a nice evening.

Genoa is looking good right now, or potentially Savona? I'll be coming in through Nice and don't really want to go further east than Genoa or further north than Cairo Montenotte.

So, any recommendations? I realise it's a bit of a specific question, but a lot of OCUK members seem to be very well travelled!

Thanks :)

Avoid Genoa unless you enjoy badly designed roads and suicidal drivers

Cinque Terre is where I would go:

Basically 5 villages on the coast to the west of La Spezia - Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. It's around 1.5-2 hours from Genoa and considerably nicer area.

Hotels wise, there are lots to choose from, last time we went we just staying in apartments for a couple of nights

Came in here to say post exactly the above. Ideally you'd be able to spend a couple of days there, if not then a single night in Manarola would be what I'd suggest. It could be interesting by car.

:Edit: Actually not entirely sure it is Manorola I mean, it is wherever that picture is ^ :p

It's funny you should mention Cinque Terre as I've had a lot of people recommend it to me and was actually planning on going later in the year.

Problem is, it's quite a bit further than I want to go - I want to avoid spending ages driving and Genoa was really as far as I was prepared to go. I think I'd rather save Cinque Terre for the summer, when the weather's better, and spend a whole week there as it does look like a fantastic area.

That place doesn't look real! It looks Photoshopped, op has to go there now to prove it is real.

Genoa is a port town and has a lot of prostitutes according to my Dad. He'd know  That place looks nice though but my GF said she couldn't see enough beaches, fs.
