Cheap alternative to nike air max??

Not had a pair of nike air max's for quite a while but I remember I was pretty impressed by them. I find most trainers are pretty comfortable for day to day wear for <6 hours or so but I guess it depends on how sensitive you are or where you're walking. Best to probably pop into town and check out a Sport Soccer or other chav infested high street sports shop.

Adidas Samba, more timeless in style than Nike airs I reckon.
I've had 2 pairs so far, one pair lasts a year of almost daily wear despite using them to run, cycle, walk, climb. Extremely comfortable too. Once worn out they still keep going into the next phase of their life (working on the car, house etc) when they arent cosmetically suitable to wear casually.

Go to a proper running/walking shop and not the likes of JJB or Sports Direct.
Talk to people who actually know and if it's a proper shop they will put you on a treadmill to also test your gait.
Try the shoes they suggest and then go and look for the same pair in one of the cheap shops or look online.

Just checked out one of the best sports shops in Britain called Bourne Sports and they don't even stock Nike Air Max so that is a big clue to me that they can't be any good for what you're using them for.

@Soundood

those would appear to be the types of plimsolls you would get for Christmas as a child from your grandma.

When I was little we knew them as ninja shoes and they were the most appropriate footwear for dressing up as a ninja.

yes kids are weird and ninja movies were popular in the 80s

If it's something simple you are after (e.g. flats / plimsolls) then just go to Primark tbh. The quality of Top Shop shoes etc is hardly any better.

The comfort is fair for the price paid, but flats are never that comfy anyway.

I bought a pair of £18.99 trainers and regret it.. my feet literally bled from the walk to asda and back

You need a pair of Air Max 90s. I've walked 17-18 miles without break and when I got home my feet were probably the only part of my body still ready to take more! Rest of my body was knackered though.

I don't think I'd ever trust another brand of trainer. I'm on my 5th pair of Air Max 90s.

For marathons I always used Reebok DMX models but my first pair in 1999 cost £110.
My current pair cost £50 and it wasn't until a month later I found out they were womens :D
They are very comfy but I'm a bit annoyed that the assistant in the Reebok shop didn't point it out.

I bought a pair of Karrimor "trainers" for knocking about in, about £19.99 from Sports Direct. They're built like tanks and have taken a hell of a beating.

I don't run or anything in them. I don't see the point in paying £100 odd quid for a pair of trainers unless they're sporty stuff.

Same, and I duly regret it. I had Nike Air Relentless2's before for running (circuits session - indoor - I attend; also completed Tough Mudder last year wearing them) and had no problems at all; these Karrimor's I have though... First session wearing them my feet felt terrible afterwards also noticing I had a couple points where my toes had been compressed a little due to the shoes (like how you get marks on your fingers from holding a pen and writing for ages, if that makes sense). I'm looking to get me some Relentless2's or 3's ASAP.

'Alternative to Nike Air Max' is quite meaningless to be honest.

Go to a proper running/walking shop and not the likes of JJB or Sports Direct.
Talk to people who actually know and if it's a proper shop they will put you on a treadmill to also test your gait.

This advice is pretty sound with the exception of going to find them online. Dimple, why do you place no value on the advice you receive? I appreciate the desire to save money but it's pretty out of order to take that good advice and give no reward whatsoever. If people continue to go that way then there will be nowhere to receive such advice.

OP, I agree that you should get your gait checked out, whether you overpronate (common) or supinate etc can make a massive difference to the comfort of your shoes and cause/avoid injuries.

Bought a cheap pair of Airwalk trainers from Sports Direct and they seem to do me fine. They only last about 6 months though as they're all i wear as i'm a cheap-skate when it comes to shoes.

They only cost about £20-£25 though so i'm not fussed. :D
