i need to have access to my credit report. I have tried Noddle, but it seems a bit empty compared to ones I have seen before.

What do you find the best sites for credit reports?

Noddle is fine for checking your credit history.

Don't spend money to get a "credit score" - as far as lenders are concerned there's no such thing as a credit score. A score is just a "made up score" given to you by the likes of Experian or Equifax to sell you thier products and services - co-incidently enough services such as "improve your credit score" ;)

You do however have a credit history and lenders have "lending profiles" that they try to match to your credit history and if your history favourably matches thier profile (or one of thier profiles) then they'll be happy to lend to you.

As said, don't pay for them as there's no such thing. Basically each of the main 3 credit reference companies makes up their own "score" based on your history.

Noddle will let you access this history for free.

The two major credit reference agencies are Experian (the biggest) and Equifax. Callcredit are a distance third.

Noddle gives you Callcredit's records for free. But they're much less used by lenders than Experian & Equifax, so you'll probably want to get your data from Experian ('CreditExpert') and Equifax as well.

If you've never signed up before you can get 'free trials' from Experian and Equifax which will get your report for free as long as you cancel before the trial is over. Otherwise the best option is to pay for a £2 statutory check for each of Experian/Equifax.

As people have said above, any 'score' is pretty useless - all you can really do is see what data they hold about you and check it's correct.

I'm skeptical of sites such as Noddle. I ask without thinking about it too much, but what's in it for them, really?

So they can try and sell you products once you are signed up based on their free service. Alternative to the 30 day trial of the others.

Noddle is all you need - all the scores and additional services are not needed.

I found the free trial with Experian pretty useful. Just make sure you cancel before the end of the free period.Otherwise, Noddle.

Noddle. "5/5" for me. While it helped me get my gf from 2/5 to 4/5 by knowing where she has failed.

could u elaborate a bit on this mate? how she failed etc. im only 3/5 noddle and ive never missed a payment in my life on anything. i do have 4k on a credit card and i only earn 25k so i guess i do have a significant debt there, any ideas?

What's in it for noddle? They advertise credit cards and loans based on your history, that's how they give credit reports out for free.
You don't need any thing more than what noddle provides, don't waste money of the others.

Well some stuff we already knew which was obvious such as living in overdraft and having 2 credit cards. So we know OK we will move the debt to a 0% card and get paying the card and the overdraft back.

But it also lets you see missed payments. For instance mobile phone bills. So so many missed mobile bills lol. Not that this would actually be something to lower your rate. Any loans it lets you see. I think it just gives you a good look at everything and it's up to you what you will do about it. I don't find chats in banks helpful and when she went in they said how they would ring her up on every pay day and make sure she is putting the money in etc. This never ever happened. Anyway enough of me moaning at my gfs bad money management.

Sadly I can't really suggest how to get a 5/5 rating (even if it is just a bit made up anyway). I use my credit card for everything but I always pay it back online before the end of the month (I don't spend what I don't have).

As for your score. 25k seems like you could easily get rid of that debt so long as you have some sort of plan/direct debit. I made my gf get off her £35 a month contract, buy a £100 Moto G phone and get on a £13 monthly plan. It's just little things that all add up. Any spare money you think you might have isn't spare money, it's money to pay off the debt.

The 4 grand is easily a point knocked off your score though. Lenders want to see you are using services to use their money but at the same time paying it back.

I have terrible rating, lowest there is. But nothing in the last 3 years has been late/skipped, everything is green? I've settled ALL debt and have nothing. Yet I'm still at the absolute lowest, on the electoral role. But still, struggling. I've no idea how to bump it up. I've got a CC but simply rather not use it.

Is there a company I can just speak to someone and ask for advice on what's going on?

Missed payments etc will stay on your credit profile for 6 years. Nothing you can do can get these removed any earlier.
