My brother just come to me with some interesting news. He's saying that is i5-4670 isn't good enough for gaming.. Specifically GTA 5 (obviously not out yet so he wouldn't know) and Dying Light which he has.

His Spec:

i5-4670 (non k)
gigabyte g1 970 3.5gb ;)
8gb RAM (Unknown)
650W PSU (Unkown)
and some really cheap and nasty case.

** Swear words should be fully starred please **

Now, his friends are not the best when it comes to pc's and his quick google by him is saying that it isn't good enough.

I'm fairly sure that it's not, and it's fine being one of the top i5's albeit not being a 'K' version. Now he wants to run every game on ultra, 60FPS. He only games at 1080p.

Can i just have some clarification for his sake that his PC is fine? The only thing i can think of is that his case, having like 1 fan and all that expensive hardware in there is getting too hot and throttling the pc?

EDIT:
Apologies, i thought i did star them. Sorry

Dying light as far as im aware isn't optimised all that well. I could be wrong though.

As for the CPU, it will be fine, and will not be holding him back I don't think.

Personally the system is still ok, if the 2500 can still cut it then your brothers system is fine.

I am concerned with the non branded PSU though.

Can you also fully star out the swear word please

TBH we'd all love to run every game on Ultra at 60FPS at 1080p but alas not every game will do that on any system apart from the very, very expensive ones.

His system will be fine, the CPU isn't an issue (K version just means it's unlocked & easier to overclock), neither is the rest of the system tbh.

I can't even guarantee my system will run everything at 60FPS constantly on Ultra (780, 4790K, 16GB Ram, 1050w PSU, SSD's etc even though I game at 1440p. Just can't guarantee it.

Okay, thanks. He's just read all of this and feels a bit better now. He just worries as he reads one thing on the internet then panics.

It is known, just without opening up the PC and looking i don't know it, why would i? I know mine.. don't care about his! :P

I don't think I've come across a game yet that i don't run on Ultra at 60fps @ 1080p.. But then again, i don't monitor it though so wouldn't know.

Which motherboard is it?

How fast is the ram actually running at? <--- on mine it sometimes defaults to 1333MHz, no idea why.

Update the BIOS.

What Temp is the CPU at?

Has he got an SSD yet?

1, Some asus thing..
2, don't have a clue..
3, i probably could do!
4, on stock cooler i believe max of like 80 in stress test i think?
5, no!

He's 15 without a job so can't afford new parts until christmas/birthday.

I shall go onto his PC tomorrow, and have a look at things in depth.. He just comes to me complaining and then never lets me sort it!

There is no other CPU you can get that would really improve him with what he's got. Unless you get an overclocking i5/7, and then would be pointless.
