So friday night came in an tried to turn on my PC, 6 bleeps and nothing on the screen :(

Looked online and all indications seems like the graphics card is gone on my Dell. Pulled the BIOS battery too just in case but no.

So it seems like a chance to upgrade, but i'm tied to Nivida for a few reasons including being a avid user of NVIDIA GeForce 3D Vision.

So i have two options, getting a 780ti is out because they seem to be going for crazy prices everywhere, i will be playing at 1080p 4xAA on a 120Hz monitor. With a possible miontor upgrade to 1440p in the next 1-2 years and getting a Oculas Rift when they come out. i tend to play slightly older games that are 2-3 years old but will be playing Elite with the Oculas Rift

Option 1: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SC - Seem to be going for very good prices right now, There's even a B grade one going for very cheap. Not far off 980 performances. And will probably upgrade again in a year or two, memory issue doesn't bother me

Option 2 : EVGA GeForce GTX 980 - Going for a whopping £449.99, but i will get piece of mind that it will play everything with a decent frame rate for the next 2-3 years, but the price is bad.

Just a side question why has the 980's gone up so much? You could get a good one for £400 a couple of months ago. Was it because everyone was dumping thier 970's because of the memory thing?

The 980s seem to be carrying a 50pc markup over the 970s for a 15-20pc performance increase. It would stick in my craw having to pay so much for so little. You say the memory issue doesn't bother you on the 970 but it's much more likely to cause problems when you upgrade to 1440p, especially in a couple of years when there are likely to be more games using over 3.5gb at that resolution.

However as you want to stick with nvidia and with the 960 being a nothing card, the 970 is probably your best option and flog it after you've tested it with your future 1440p monitor if it isn't performing to your expectations. Nvidia should have new stuff out by then.

You could a eye on the MM and pick up a good deal. GTX 780's go for around £170 and I have seen 970's go for £230 and 980's for £385.

Maybe try a different PSU first?

Do you have access to another pc, or a friends pc maybe? Would be worth trying it in another computer before paying all that money for a new card. Saying that, isn't your 780 still covered under warranty?

Not sure, i bought it off someone here on MM. It has a tweaked BIOS which might have shortened it's life so i don't think i would have been covered anyway.

Also i just found a decent deal on the rainforest place so i might go for that, if it's not the card and still bleeps i can always return it.
