I purchased a pair of OCUK 970's on Sunday, they arrived today but are Zotac branded... They are of course reference design etc, but are these the promised cards with the 980 PCB and little to no coil whine etc? or have they been substituted?

I've not installed them yet as I've not left work, but I'd like to know before I install them.

I assumed they'd be OCUK branded boxes etc.

Thanks for any info.

The first batch of cards were made by Manli, the cards shipped in Manli's packaging.

This second batch of 970s were made by Zotac for OcUK, they come in Zotac packaging.

There's no OcUK branding.

They have all the features and changes that OcUK requested, such as reduced coil whine tech :)

Thank you for the info guys...

Weird though that the product description still states:

"We also instruct our factory to only build these cards with Samsung memory"
"Memory Size: 4096MB Samsung GDDR5"

Not sure what the difference between Hynix and Samsung RAM is going to be, but if the cards are no longer using Samsung RAM then they should change that in the description :(

Well, it's already been noted that these aren't to Gibbo's original spec, ie non Samsung memory. Guess only he can confirm what else has been altered (if anything) .

If I'd bought one, I'd want to know if they had the anti-whine tech, for example.

Well I can't PM Gibbo so I can only hope he comes across this post to give some info, gotta say I am gonna be a bit narked if these aren't to the spec advertised.

Just received the following from Evoaddict in Component Technical Support:

"The card you have received is not the correct card as Zotac do not make our cards so it looks like a stock error from our warehouse."

Update, just received the following back:

"Apologies I have just looked into this a little more after your query and the card is the same design that Gibbo did but is made by Zotac now. I will ask Gibbo to reply in your other thread to confirm the details with you."

So hopefully there can be some clarification of any changes to these 970's.

Heh, you might want to refer Evoaddict to post no. 67 from this thread:

I shall update the description as Samsung is no longer available now but they are SK Hynix so OC range should be similar of 3800-4400MHz (7600-8800MHz). :)

Zotac, Manli, PNY, Inno3D are all same factory, this batch were built by Zotac as are a true recognised European partner so just makes warranty claims in 3rd year easier for us and the packaging is improved also. :)

EDIT:

Meh, beaten like the proverbial ginger etc. :D

Imo that should be the next step for OcUK, start building on the brand :)

We are not allowed, NVIDIA hold the cards and OcUK is not an authorised VGA manufacturer, any project or card I design has to be approved and then a board partner assigned to build it.

Zotac, Manli, PNY and Inno3D are all PC Partner, built in same factory and to my specification.

So yes 980PCB and yes coil whine reduction tech. :)

Only the memory, Samsung was always the request, but now Samsung is in shortage it is either no cards or switch to SK Hynix, fortunately the overclock performance actually seems as good and in most cases better with SK Hynix, nearly 9000MHz has being reached. :)

Thank you for the conformation Gibbo :)

One other thing, as these do have the 980 PCB are we allowed to strip the cooler and watercool them under the warranty (I've no plans to do so at this point, but interested to know)

Cheers.

No cooler removal is not allowed, of course you can do it and if you put it back together and we cannot tell then we'd never know. ;)

But officially no!

Damn shame m8, the good work/alterations you've done with the 970 would give OcUK the makings of a decent foothold in the UK/European markets :)

We already have the foothold and to be honest creating a new AIB brand is huge work and OcUK is not a manufacturer of components, we simply help in improving design of certain products and then market them as our own or as an exclusive product which works well for us and our partners in Europe. :)
