Hi all,

Looking at spending up to £18k on a car. Been looking around, seems I can get a very nice low mileage Evo for that mark, or even something like an E92 M3. The thing that worries me about the M3 is that I'll struggle to find one sub 60k mileage in a decent spec, which means no warranty.

Any other suggestions? I'd love another Evo, hopefully one that's in better condition than my first. But part of me thinks I've been and done that, so maybe look at something else?

Thoughts?

Wrong sub-forum, should be in Motors surely?

How many seats/doors do you need? Z4M?

Haha, what an idiot, no idea how I didn't post this in motors.

Got an S2000 now, but I'm going down to one car so need a little bit more practicality.

E46 and put the difference in a rainy day pot or 3rd party warranty? Can get a nice low miler for that money and I think they still look great.

Problem with that budget as you say is that it's probably slightly too low for a sub 60k miles E92 M3.

What about an Audi S4/RS4, would they be in budget?

Aren't they meant to be a bit crap to drive compared to BMW's offerings?

Depends on the model, but overall most people would probably agree with that statement.

Struggling to think of something suitable for your budget, the price point seems to sit between generations (e.g. M3).

As someone above said, a E60 M5?

I've love an E60 M5, but aren't they notoriously susceptible to various faults with massive repair prices?

M5 all the way, 18k gets a good one or buy one for 15k and stick BMW warranty on it (3k) and enjoy 12 months trouble free motoring.

In which case the M5 is a good choice which I think your budget should be fine I think :) I think an M3 (E46) may be a more "exciting" drive - but there's no denying the M5 is awesome :)

You have an S2000 - so you interested in any other Jap cars?

M5 is just exciting to be frank, its not as raw and feels a bit heavier, but as soon as you hit the loud pedal all is forgotton, the acceleration on M5 into license losing speeds are insane.

30-100mph a GTR will destroy an M5, but over 100mph the M5 actually starts pulling away, they are incredibly quick cars, definitely a car you need to stretch it legs either illegally or go for a drive to Germany or track event. :)

TBH I might just keep the S2000, maybe supercharge it. I hate being indecisive.

S2000 loves FI. :)

If such kits were not £10,000 for the 911 and if the engine could take it which they would not for long I would go same route as 911 as all I would like is more power, but final bill to go such a route on the 911 would be £20,000 and it would all be money lost.

So I'd rather just buy a new car that is faster in a straight line out the box. :)

Sporty Saloon I would look around for a Jag XFR. Might stretch you to £20k and be around 60k miles, but the engines in jags are borderline indestructible.

And it's a jag.

Looks like a kit is £3300, then I have to find injectors & a fuel pump the obviously fitting and mapping. Would see bhp up to around 350-400 but rev limit slightly lower at 8500 or so to prolong life.
