There seems to be a lot of people with problems over the net regarding display port problems with the GTX980 and GTX970 series and some other GTX series cards .But not seen it on here (i have asked this on a previous thread)
The problem is that cold booting a computer with display port with either 1440p or 4K is that the screen says Display port No signal then the screen shuts off and the pc does not boot (programs do not load in Logitech G19S Screen) .
when i got my new computer from dell i tried everything to get display port to work and just wasnt happening and there are lots of others on the Nvidia forums and other forums around the net with no Apperant fix
Using the DVI-D and hdmi works fine on my GTX980 but not display port .
I actually got dell to replace all 3 of my 980's and it was still happneing and then dell decide to replace the whole computer (again) and still the problem is still there .
I managed to get a work around where on cold boot if i see a bigger than normal Alienware logo (1080p logo screen res) it would not boot to the desktop or WIN8.1 login screen and computer would not boot up (can see in G19s if afterbutner loads or other programs and none dont ) so computer not booting properly .
The work around was if i pressed F2 to go into bios and come straight back out pressing esc key and then enter the computer would then show a normal size (1440p logo ) Alienware logo and thus showing that to me that its going to boot normaly and it does so with no other problems .
I have tried using 2 cables inside the monitor using dvi and Dp and to make sure the DP was at default under Nvidia control panel and then unplugging the DVI and still dont work .
I tried a new DP cable today and can now manage to actually get the monitor to boot to the screen with DP but the default res on the screen shows up as 1080p only . I did this following someone elses problem when they unplugged the power cable from the monitor while it was booting leaving it for 1 minute and to make sure there is no more power inside the monitor then plug back in , then the monitor will then go through a power cycle and then it would boot to the desktop with the Nvidia driver recovered from a serious error message .
I can now cold boot the pc but only can have 1080p max res on a 1440p ips screen .
if i restart the pc it will then boot normal and it will be in 1440p .
the problem is cold booting .
now my problem is that i have just ordered a new philips 4K monitor from rain forest (a bit of a wait but in no rush) and this problem is going to bug the hell out of me as the monitor does not have a DVI port and there is no way im using HDMI @30Hz .
Im happy using the ASUS PB278Q via DVI-D as my second monitor but i will be wanting the Philips as my default monitor at 4K @60HZ over DP 1.2 .
I have tried using just 1 video card as so has the 3 dell engineers who are also baffled by this .all ports using 2 cables and making sure DP was default number 1 monitor .
it seems its a 900 Series bios issue as EVGA have got a fix for there Issues and sent out bois upgrades and this fixed the problem .
My problem is my cards are Nvidia Reference OEM and fitted by Dell/Alieware .
PC boots fine is Safe mode every time so its definatly a driver/Card BIOS issue .
my card bios is 84.04.1F.00.02
I wouldnt be that fussed if i wasnt getting/ ordering a 4K monitor .
all this is to do with some kind of power issue with the card and monitor syncing from cold start up . i even enabled no GUI BOOT in MSCONFIG .
Dell are now telling me its nothing to do with them as they spotted nvidia forums flooding with this problem and now its nvidia's problem , and for once i AGREE with them .
Has anybody else had this issue ? i just dont fancy pressing F2 everytime i want to boot the computer .
