I can't see any real reason why the cosy of fuel has to coincide with the ship size. I run a fuel scoop, else it would be a crippler.

Another thing that is fairly annoying is this faction ranking. I have done countless missions and making sure I get my fed status up with each fed planet that I visit but do you think they will give me that damned last mission? Meh!!!

On a side note, has anyone received the goodies from the kickstarter, as in boxed edition and t-shirts?
Been trying to find out when everything will be shipped and having no luck at it.

Anyone else finding that the 75% throttle at 8secs has stopped working in supercruise.

Prior to the last patch I had a key mapped to 75%. SC in to a starport, hit 8 secs away, press 75% and then relax for the perfect non-overshoot approach.

Now about 1 time in 2 I am overshooting. It usually conincides with a 0.5 sec 'freeze' at about 20ls away almost whilst it 'loads' the larger graphics for the local system.

I used to just stick it at 6 seconds and similarly find now that I'm overshooting. Deceleration isn't along the same curve as it was before.

Not quite yet...

Hello everyone! That's right, two people have claimed Triple Elite status (well done to both of you!)- we're just looking through the data now to find out who made it first, and if the claim is legitimate. An announcement will be made soon.

Right, had a bit of a foray into the rare trading route posted by Legend a few pages back and managed to cobble together enough credits to upgrade myself from my Hauler to a Cobra Mk III!!!! :D

So far all I've done to it is replaced the 8 capacity cargo racks with the 16 capacity racks and bought a 2 capacity rack for the empty slot (it was the highest I could see!)

The rest of it is a bit of a muddle to be honest between different class FSD's and the various Power Couplings etc - could someone give me the specs of a decent kit out for this ship? - I'm predominantly going to be doing more rare runs until my credits have built up a bit so I'd imagine I want a decent cargo capacity along with a good FSD to make the travelling as fast as possible?!?!

After the purchase and above changes I've got circa 365,000cr left to play with but I'll obviously need some for insurance and a fair bit leftover to buy the cargo goods with!

Thanks for any pointers guys....

Got really bored of trading and saving up for my Asp, so i went and got a viper, spent some money upgrading it for fighting then went out for some fun, even managed to bag my first Asp :P

And here's the proof!

I do love this game, it never gets boring!!

Tried the Rare run earlier for the first time :(

Only netted me about 250,000cr each way profit after repairs & fuel costs not sure its worth the hassle when you can find low risk runs A - B for around 250,000cr per hour which is about the same amount as the Rare run!

StevieP - I'm currently doing the same as you, have a Cobra with 34t cargo. A round trip with full cargo each way should net you around 1.2 million. As mentioned your priority is to upgrade your Power and FSD to A rated kit, this really helps increase your jump range and makes the trips a little shorter.

Basically kitting out your Cobra is a balance between performance and weight / power requirements. Each upgrade usually has an "optimal" value regards its related performance, eg, an A rated class 4 FSD has an optimal mass of 525 tons. If you Cobra is under this then you get a slightly better than optimal performance, if over then your FSD performance is less than optimal. As a rule of thumb D rated kit is lightest and B rated is heaviest. You might choose to only upgrade critical upgrades to A and save weight with others (like sensor settings for example) to D. If yo choose to go A rated with everything just make sure your power draw doesn't exceed your supply :)

Another tip - get a fuel scoop and in the navigation settings when in your galaxy map make sure you have Fastest Route enabled. This means a lot less jumps but they tend to be bigger in size and you WILL run out of fuel unless you have a fuel scoop handy to resupply.

What route were you running and how much cargo can you carry? I've been doing rares in a T6 (only 88T). I'm told it's not optimal, but to be honest, it's more fun than jumping between points A and B, for me. It's netting around 1m on each half of the circuit, for me. I didn't time myself but I was taking it casually; the biggest pain is waiting for restocks, I guess.

I found that part of the benefit of doing rares, you get a 10 minute break every few minutes to do something else... not sure what that says about the game mind :p

There are only so many cups of tea I can drink per hour. :(

I had a hilarious encounter with a pirate last night as I was heading to the station in Zaonce to sell off all the rares. He was in a Cobra and he interdicted me so, as I always do, I stopped dead and greeted him. There was no scan, which I thought was a bit odd for a pirate, but it turns out this was his first time. He asked me to drop cargo, so I ask how much. He wants 1T. I'm sat with a hold worth slightly above 1m credits, and he wants 1T of cargo.

For the first time ever, I drop some cargo. Witchhaul Kobe Beef seems like a reasonable "gift" for my assailant, so I jettison one unit. He asks if it would be marked stolen. I guess so? Picks it up and sure enough, it is. Says I can keep it. Being the kind-hearted victim I am, I drop another, selecting the abandon option this time. He says that is marked stolen, too(??! - in hindsight, I wonder if maybe he picked up the same canister again, but I'm pretty sure I saw him go towards the fresh one on my radar). Says I can keep both, he's going to bed, and thanks me for my time, before flying away.

Thinking the hilarity ends here, I go to scoop up my canisters full of expensive cow. In addition to never having dropped cargo before, I've also never scooped anything. I spend a moment figuring out how to deploy my cargo scoop, then let the fun begin. First canister, I start to position myself. It's already degraded to like 30% by this point. I bump it several times in an attempt to pick it up, resulting in its destruction. No big loss, but a little frustrating. So, carefully, I move over to the other piece. Again, highly-degraded already, but I'm slow and steady. I position myself over it, move closer and nothing. So then I try retracting the scoop, maybe thinking this is like a grabber game. Finally read that I have to move to a much shorter distance and it will be done automatically. Great! Bump. Canister destroyed. FML.

Things to take away from this experience:

  1. If you're a pirate, invest in a cargo scanner. Seriously. If the guy had seen just what I was carrying, he might have wanted more than just one unit.
  2. If you're a trader and playing open, learn how abandoning cargo works. A less patient pirate might have ended up shooting me.
  3. I'm glad nobody was around to see my cargo-scooping fail. It was quite embarrassing, really. :p

Thanks for the tips - I'll have a look at what the various upgrades will do for me - I really need a better understanding of power management to be honest! Might have to do a bit of reading!

How do you use the fuel scoop btw? I've read that you need to be close but not too close to certain stars!?!?

@JHeaton cracking! :D Nice to see there is a bit of civility even in pirates these days! :p
